Russian War Crimes (Part 1)

WAH - The thing is, if this invasion succeeds it will send a message to all the oppressive autocratic regimes around the world that it’s ok to just invade your neighbours if you don’t like what they’re doing. Today Ukraine, tomorrow Taiwan, Baltics, South Korea, Nepal, Poland… who knows?
Putin has calculated, partly correctly so far, that the opposition would be too divided to put up a fight. The US is weaker and more riven with internal conflict than at any time since the second world war, and Europe is divided and struggling to find an identity and common purpose. It’s vital for the future of the world that those who oppose tyranny stand together at this point.

This is insanity on the part of the Russians. Air raids on a civilian populace is utter madness.

Sounds like they’re going to flatten Kiev then. The Russian people need to know about this.

I heard a discussion on Swiss TV, with one guy having been until recently the longstanding ambassador for Switzerland in Moscow. He personally knows everyone at the Kremlin, since a long period of time. Until a day before the invasion, he publicly said that Russia wouldn’t do it, because it would be irrational and unproductive, and thus out of character for Putin and his government. The first day of the invasion, he was absolutely flabbergasted by Russia’s aggression, and said that it wasn’t in line with anything he knew about Putin and his government. Talking about Putin, he said that it was as if a brutal personality change had happened.

He described Putin as a usually very rational, logical character, thus to a degree predictable (if you understand his logic, that is). Whereas he saw this aggression as illogical on all accounts. Who will benefit from this in the end, apart from the arms merchants? Nobody.

That’s the frightening part. We witness a totally irrational act from Putin here, and thus, we can’t know where he’ll stop. Logic finds itself out of play here as it seems.
