Russian War Crimes (Part 2)

Two things coming out of the meeting of the G7 over the weekend which I thought might be significant.

Firstly the statement saying that the G7 would never accept the redrawing of any new borders as a result of Russian aggression. (I’m not sure if that refers to Crimea aswell as it wasn’t technically because of a war.) In effect does this give cover , and encouragement , to Ukraine to prosecute the war until the territories occupied since 2014 are liberated from Russian control ?

Also the strongly worded statement which concerns the blockade of the Black Sea by the Russians , telling them in no uncertain terms that their actions could precipitate a global humanitarian disaster with potentially millions of lives at risk. In such an egregious situation does there come a point when Nato has a moral imperative to intervene ? Would they have to consider issuing an ultimatum to the Russians to let the grain ships out or suffer limited NATO intervention to secure such an outcome ? (i.e. attack the Black Sea fleet , and presumably the naval base at Crimea.)

Sweden wants to join Nato but not have bases in the country

We’ve got more now on the decision of Sweden’s ruling party to back the country joining Nato.

A statement says: “The Social Democrats’ party board has decided that the party will work for Sweden to apply for membership in Nato.”

But it does not want nuclear weapons or Nato bases in Sweden.

“The Social Democrats will thus work to ensure that Sweden, if the application is approved by Nato, expresses unilateral reservations against the deployment of nuclear weapons and permanent bases on Swedish territory,” the statement continues.

Swedish leader Magdalena Andersson and other senior ministers from her party will speak in a news conference in about half an hour.

Ouch. That is insane. They really haven’t moved on from the tactical methods of the meat grinder, have they. By all accounts, the commands they receive are as rigid as fuck;

General A : objective A needs to be taken, full frontal assault’

Field Commander: Da

complete carnage ensues, air support doesn’t arrive and artillery strikes wildly 30 minutes after the assault

General A: Objective A still stands, needs to be taken. Full frontal assault.

Field Commander: Da

Complete carnage etc etc

General B (General A has been killed): Take Objective A!

Field Commander B (Commander A is lying dead in a ditch): Da

Complete… Oh you get the picture

General C (General B’s body parts are being flown to Moscow): Objective A blah blah blah.

Field Commander C (B is ‘missing’): sigh Da…
