There simply isn’t the appetite for it in the EU. Governments are struggling to make the case for economic and military support for Ukraine while their own citizens are faced with hardship.
It will take something more directly threatening to persuade people that it’s a fight worth sacrificing for.
Sad, but true, and Putin knows it.
In that context, the perspective of Trump coming back to power is frightening to be honest.
It’s one of the myriad ways that the election of Trump is disastrous.

Note: When I post such posts, it does not mean that I agree with the person’s analysis, but that it is interesting and worth knowing. His commas is his intepretation.
This is the article and it is not under a paywall:
Might be of interest to @Arminius.
Dugin has thoughts
Is that worth quoting? It’s gobbledygook.
No way will Romania be part of Russia, they are already an EU member, so any attempt to take control will bring a pretty large response from EU members.
I think they are also in Nato, or at least have fairly close ties to nato with a view to joining, so again, Russia trying anything with Romania will lead to them getting a major arse kicking
The European nations are busier bringing autocratic and despotic individuals similar to Putin to power than actually dealing with the existential threat posed by him.
Romania is a full EU and NATO member. I’m just not that sure that the Romanian people would be opposed to being ruled by Putin, seeing that in the first round of the presidential elections an unknown pro-Putin individual without a party and without running a campaign came first.
That quote above is absolute bullshit. Romania has never been a part of Russia. Who is this guy anyway? Probably some stupid mouthpiece from a Russian propaganda rag.
It’s Dugin, so if you’re at all familiar with anything to do with Russia in the last few years, he should be no stranger… Russian propagandist as you suspect.
Very fair point and I take self criticism. I could be much more selective here, but I suppose I quoted it because in Romania, the pro Russian candidate who swears that after he wins, there will be no elections; is currently poised to win the election.
But Dugin does indeed write like an old alcoholic fascist. Which I guess he is. Strangely, his opinions resonate in Russia quite well though.
But yes, not my best post
I suppose rolling my eyes at Dugin’s words, made me want to share, given who he is.
I mean, he is dangerous enough (but at the same time not close enough to the power apparatus to trigger a severe reaction) for Ukraine to target him with a bomb plot. They (it was likely SBU) blew up his propagandist daughter with a car bomb. The rest of their assassinations have been military officers who participated in war crimes, but they made hurting Dugin a priority for a reason.
Dugin is a fairly important figure. He does not decide, but influences those who do and he is the intellectual Father of modern Russian Imperialism and irredentism. He is an ideologue.
@Hope.in.your.heart Dugin isn’t stupid, my friend. Just very bloodthirsty, confrontational and to us, insane. He would fit right as a German university professor beloved by the NSDAP in 1939. He sadly is a note worthy figure. Philosopher and ideologue.
I understand what you mean, but that for me is the very definition of stupidity.
Have you heard of John J. Mearsheimer, the famous american Realist Thinker who broke with washington in 2022 and stated openly that Russia ought to have been appeased ? The European and American Right-wing (as well as left wing) loves Mearsheimer.
Just in case someone makes the mistake of thinking that Dugin is a nobody. It has always been my opinion that gobbledygook (I fell in love with @Bekloppt
term) of dangerous people should be highlighted, though I provided little context, and it was a weak and bad post in isolation.
But I do want readers to know who Dugin is:
When I studied Political Science several years ago, we sometimes discussed Dugin. He is after all the most famous modern fascist ideologue.
The problem with Dugin, is that certain people in the Kremlin power apparatus, are huge fans of his and adore him.
The best example is Sergey Naryshkin, (later also Dmitri Medvedev, but Naryshkin is by far the more sinister and dangerous of the two). Dugin is an almost mythecal heroic figure for the Russian Ultra nationalists, fascists, Tzarists and etc. and they are Kreml’s power base.
Sergey Naryshkin, as then head of the SVR, plotted and planned the invasion of Ukraine. It was his organisation that planned the war.
He is a True Believer of the most dangerous kind. Personally, I am more scared of him that Putin.
On 15 August 2023 Naryshkin gave a speech at a security conference in Moscow, where he argued that for “a spiritually and physically healthy person, it’s unpleasant and sometimes even scary to travel to Europe–so many perversions of various kinds have thrived there”
Just the view of the Norwegian government (and parliament):
Of course google translated with so-so English.
Russian tool
On the genocidal Russian “Duck Hunt” campaign in Kherson. I have posted about it before but. Essentially, Russian Special Forces have methodically and extrordinary systematically, targeted civilians and all civilian life in Kherson city for over a year, with FPV drones. Just like the field executions, it is systematic and methotical, not the acts of individual unit commanders and toops with bad dicipline. This campaign is being waged mostly by the units in the Russian army with the higest dicipline and it’s a long, slow attempt at ethnic cleansing by murder and terror, to make the civilian populace flee Kherson city (which Russia plans to re-invade). It has long shocked me that little is written about this in the mms.

There are several videos and a lot of Russian chat about this. Kherson is a holyday destination, where you can travel to learn how to use FPV drones live and shoot at the "UKROPS. I am not fucking joking. But it would take me a lot of time to trawl and find these chats.
I forgot to add above, they have been gathering for a river crossing offensive to Kherson city for some time. The genocidal drone terror camapign can partly be seen as one aspect of those preparations
