He was definitely a double pivot with Grav, but tended to be the one getting forward and trying to link the attack.
Good game again from Grav. Iām curious as to whether he can replicate it on a regular level, and also against stronger opposition, in a tight, nervous game. I guess we will find out very soon.
Just wanted to stick my head into this thread to see what everyoneās thoughts were on Gravenberchās emergence as our #6. So far, so good
Phenomenal player.
Quickly quietened down a lot of his critics last season, couldnāt be more delighted for him.
Heās got better each game as well.
A month or so ago, there were calls to sell him.
Just goes to show that judging any player on a handful of games is foolish. Especially, one who was coming from a year of inactivity and had missed preseason.
Another excellent game - started a few attacks, swept up a lot of balls in front of the back four, was tidy in possession as needed and always seemed to be in the right positions to help defend or receive the ball. Just a very impressive start next to Macca in the double pivot so far.
And. Is. Still. Young.
Over a year younger than Jones
Actually forgot about Jones this week - who did look very good in a double pivot for the England u21 a year ago or so.
Well said it his defensive side that has impressed me, didnāt think he had that to his game.
Been brilliant as I said in the pre match thread, Zubi who?
That interest from Turkey really lit a fire under him, didnāt it?
Never had doubt in him. Thatās why I checked for every Netherlands match to see if he can get a start.
Still early and Iām sure there will be shit games by him but nice to see that he thrives in a position didnāt want to play at Bayern.
Heās looking so good in the role already, very excited to see how he develops further.
Zooby Dooby Who?
I think R Koeman has become a big winner during this international break. Heās just found out that heās got a brand new quality No 6 that he didnāt even know about at his disposal.
The problem is a guy whoās been without a club since June is still his best (no dig at all to Zirkzee here) #9.
Also Ake hasnāt featured this season and the poor guy just had to watch De Ligt stink the place out.
Both Mac and Grav interchanged the #6 position / role in this match. Quite a lot of times when Grav was positionally the more advanced midfielder of the two.
The linkup between then was top notch.
