The city of Napoli tonight, they certainly know how to throw a party.

Abit like us really. We need to have a proper party when we win something.

This Napoli thing is good and even encouraging. This summer saw the last vestiges leave of the era that made napoli relevent again under managers like Carlo, Rafa and Sarri. Their rebuild was based on players that most people wouldnt have known much about, and they’ve been sensational. The big issue now will be how they handle the certain interest in Kim, Osimhen and Krava.

It’s official, I have a soft spot for Jose Mourinho! :see_no_evil:
Look at those kids faces. Arsenal and Leeds players take note.

Leao is staying with Milan until 2028, he was in the last year of his contract.

What an amazing sight!

I got goosebumps watching that.

Omg! The AC Milan ultras addressing the team, after their 2-0 loss against Spezia. Who’s the manager Stefano Pioli or the Ultras ? Is this going to help make the players player better, not sure about this.

The team looked scared and intimidated:eyes::flushed:. They make our ultra fans look like a bunch of nannies.

I think Pogba might be done. I don’t get the impression he had a great work ethic in terms of conditioning, when he was younger his natural athletic ability was all he really needed. But 30 now, and the amount of off-pitch work needed is orders of magnitude greater. It sounds like he has been working hard reconditioning himself from the last injury, however the same muscle types that make you fast when you are 25 make you vulnerable as you age.

that’s no joke right there. I was pretty quick at 20 and usually played two games a weekend (Fri night for U21 and called up for D1/prem on Sundays). but my lower back, hips and hamstrings are now shot at 48 and I’m having to take up yoga and a whole bunch of exercises to try and fix the problems now

Guy I played with had a phenomenal burst of speed, despite being fairly stocky of build. Since about 35, his calf has blown out almost every year, I don’t think he has managed half a season since about 2008. He has a staggering number of related guarding injuries, and now struggles to keep his once-nasty shot down because it is so much harder for him to get over the ball.

I don’t think Pogba is there yet, but it looks very much like that is the path he is sliding down.

feels like sometimes we under-estimate how hard it is on the body to maintain a high performance level for 20+ years (most professional athletes are heavily involved in their sports as young teens or earlier.)

By the time you hit 40, your body can start to wear down without proper regimen and diet. Have a friend who played football and lacrosse as a teen, then softball for his adult life until 45. when he was diagnosed as requiring double hip replacement.

I just went to my chiro after a 16mo absence from treatment, and my guy wasn’t impressed as to how hard he had to twist me to get my lower back and hips to re-align. am a hot mess right now physically, back to the RMT in a few weeks then another chiro session. will prob never play again.

Fixed that for you…by the time you hit 40, it is too late. Somewhere right around 30, natural athletes like Pogba start having to work for it. Did you ever hear that interview with Chris Chelios where he explained why he retired at 46? He explained it wasn’t because he was slowing down, he wasn’t any slower at 46 than at 36. But the sheer amount of time he was spending on conditioning and recovery was becoming impossible. By the end, he estimated that it was about 6.5 hours a day, between off-ice training, stretching, and stuff like ice baths.

I would heartily recommend ashtanga yoga as a way to work on some of those issues and avoid injury. That said, I need to take my own advice. I got out of the habit during the lockdowns, and have only sporadically managed it since. The weekly trip to the local Y hasn’t been replaced (nor indeed has the Y, it closed and I am not sure where I would go locally now) and I haven’t had the self-discipline to do it online or recorded classes. Now I am starting to really feel it.

last Sept we took back our basement out of the rental market and I turned the bedroom into a home gym. Been doing yoga almost daily since then. This is part of my issue, I started doing this as preventative and then quickly realized I’m already broken and now I’m having rehab old injuries, like a torn hip flexor from 8y ago and a locked up L3-L5 which results from 28yrs of a desk job. sitting up to 12h a day.

That’s the real killer, is the sedentary.

What a goal by Di Lorenzo!

I wonder if De Laurentiis is pushing out Spaletti. He told SSN, ‘Spalletti is a superstar and superstars need a place where they can express the best of themselves. He found that here and it all worked. But in life freedom is an immeasurable and invaluable good, you should never clip anyone’s wings just as I would not want anyone to clip mine.’.

Spaletti responded, 'I honestly have no idea what this clipping wings phrase is supposed to mean. It’s not pertinent to what we said to each other at dinner. I don’t need a pair of wings for what I’m trying to achieve, a pair of boots will do fine.’

Italians never have a day off, do they.

De Zerbi and Italiano favourites to replace him next season.
