Yeah there are a lot of arguments being made now that just dont stand up. Even the āthey still won it on the pitchā arguments are misguided. Football is a squad sport and Cityās financial doping allowed them to build a stronger squad than anyone else could afford. Probably more more importantly it allowed them to operate in a way that gave no concern for taking a big swing and missing because there would be more money available to give it another go in the next window. Teams with actual real budgets either have to be more circumspect about pushing through on a target (us) or suffer the consequences of spending money on someone who doesnāt work out (Utd, Spurs). They were free to just keep taking swing after swing until they got one right.

Fair play to @rab for the compassionate viewpoint on the employees way down the food chain. We all want to see Man City receive due punishment, but I like the note of caution to at least be thinking about this side of it.
Hopefully there will be a large compensation pot that they have to fund, as there will be numerous lawsuits coming their way.
Ideally, part of that will be carved out to help hourly workers, and lower salaried people whose jobs may be in jeopardy, depending on how this all pans out.
Like everyone else Iām waiting to see what the sanctions will be. I would like to see titles stripped and a creative punishment that thinks long and hard about hitting them for multiple years, since their cheating went on and on. That could come in various guises.

Christ, if my employer was conducting in the level of fraud that City had been involved in for 18 years, and I knew about that fraud and it was known by the general public for 80% of that time, and I chose to stay with that employer regardless, wouldnāt you say Iād be in part responsible for my own career choice?
You can call it naivety that you might work for an employer, trust them when they say they are innocent even as you get choked out by the smoke (where thereās smokeā¦), but people have been burned in their careers for far less things that they had absolutely no control over.
Iām not going to say āfuck the City tea ladyā but sometimes you make your own bed.

All the whole while , fans in every stadium are going to call your team cheats. Players will buckle under that pressure. Sure they might soak it up for one match but the incessant negative boos to the players will take its toll and will lead them to move on.
Not many players and managers are going to come close to joining you given that your reputation is shit right now. Keep denying whatās happening is only going to prolong the inevitable.
The best thing for city to do is to take the punishment and then look to rebuild accepting what was done. But continue to stick your head up your arse and you will make things only worse. Every team fanbase in the PL hates your club and their entitled fanbase.

So would any sanctions be put on hold while court proceedings are ongoing, or would the sanctions be implemented but reversed IF the high court appeal was successful?
If someone is found guilty of arson as an example, they are in prison serving their sentence during any appeal process arenāt they?

City think they are above the rules and want to rely on the fatigue of the PL and the other clubs.
In the meantime , they will continue using their paid reporters to write sympathy articles.
let the judgement come. City can appeal for it in other courts. But itās the PL which an decide whether it wants a club like City there or not.
This is City thinking they have a substantial fan base. The only reason they are relevant right now is because they have cheated in a system where the global fanbase of the top 3 clubs (Liverpool, United, arsenal ) made the league what it is. The likes of City and Chelsea benefitted off of the back of the world the the top 3 (in terms of fanbase ) teams did. If city fucks off , thereās no fanbase which is going to magically disappear. A huge bunch of that fanbase would just go back to Chelsea.
Perfect time to rid manchester city of the notion that they are relevant in english football just because they contrived to cheat on 15 odd seasons

They are angling for the argument that Rangers getting kicked out of the Scottish league lead to a lack of competition and a falling of standards.
The problem was, that had already happened in Scottish football with them carving up most of the revenue. Fans of Aberdeen, Hearts, Dundee United etc already didnāt give a damn about which of the Old Firm would win the annual procession.
The Premier Leagueās split of the money is far more equitable and globally the average fan will simply watch whoever is at the top of the league that week.

The problem with that argument is that Scottish football had already had a lack of competition, the last team to win the Scottish league outside of Rangers and Celtic was Aberdeen under Ferguson, so that was back in the early 80ās
Premier leagues more equitable distribution of resources is what drives people with questionable money and motives to invest there in the first place.
Itās not just Chelsea and City anymore.
It was everton (when usmanov was there) , nottingham forest , aston villa (i believe they are still tied to some Saudi investors) and yeah Newcastle.

Iām not sure of the stats but Liverpool matches were the most watched across the last 10 years in the premier league.
Fans tune in to watch where they feel the matches will be interesting.
