So Kelly Cates is Kenny’s daughter? I quite like her as the new MotD presenter, but had no idea about that!
It is said that this joint advertisement was her entry into the “world of television.”

Looks a bit older and like he has lost some weight from the last time I “saw” him (online). Hope he’s good and that it’s just… time.
Yes..I noticed that during his interviews on the pitch sidelines.
I was looking at some numbers and once again some of Kenny’s numbers almost amazed me. Especially assists. And that’s not from transfermarkt where they count penalties won as direct assists.
77/78: 31 goals + 10 assists in 62 games
78/79: 25 goals + 19 assists in 54 games
79/80: 23 goals + 20 assists in 60 games
80/81: 18 goals + 24 assists in 54 games
81/82: 22 goals + 22 assists in 62 games
82/83: 20 goals + 19 assists in 58 games
83/84: 12 goals + 15 assists in 51 games
84/85: 6 goals + 24 assists in 53 games
85/86: 7 goals + 15 assists in 31 games
86/87: 8 goals + 4 assists in 25 games
Had 5 more games with 0 goal involvements in the period betwen 87/88 and 89/90 and of course, important to mention he was player-manager from 85/86.
Pretty impressive creativity and consistency.
Do you know how the assists were calculated, as it’s a statistic that I have only really seen quoted in more recent years.
I think it only tells half the story, though. Not all of those games were televised, and I used to go quite regularly during his time. In most games, he would do something that just looked impossible: maintaining possession when there were several opponents on him, putting in a critical pass when he was already on the ground, he was even useful defensively. It doesn’t get reflected properly in the stats. I’ve heard Manchester United fans talking about George Best in a similar manner. It’s absolute wizardry.
I’m often using lfchistory.net for these things, their work is an absolute treasure, I love it.
I think Kenny isn’t that far in history to get accurate simple stats like goals and assists.
But of course a player is more than stats. However, I don’t know if many people are aware of the assists, alongside goals.
I never saw him playing, but from what I’ve seen and heard, he was a very well rounded player in both directions, offensive and defensive.
Thinking on with it, it’s possible to compile them from newspaper reports at the time. I expect that there will be an archive of the Echo and possibly the pink Football Echo in the main library. At least in microfiche form if nothing else.
Yeah, they have that section also.
Brilliant site.
I suppose he was alright as a player…
Watched his movie at the cinema in Zagreb (at a documentaries festival) last night, it was refreshing to see something like that played here. Some other Liverpool fans in the crowd, saw a Jota shirt, etc.
It was nice.
