Nothing says curbing political excess like voting into power the party whose members are still under investigation for fomenting and then excusing a domestic terrorist plot designed to block to democratic transfer of power.

Haha. Mastodon in remake of The Birds as Twitter users swarm around it.

Once you get past the initial signing up confusion, Mastodon seems to work fine. That might be enough to put a lot of people off though. What they want is exactly twitter but without Musk and assholes, and they probably aren’t going to find that elsewhere.

are you seriously giving people instruction on what social media outlet to use?

I’m seeing lots of reports of scares around Tesla stock - currently under $200, down around 33% down from the point he started talking about buying twitter. In all it’s about 50% on its 12 month high, but that seems to be the trend for automakers rather than a unique musk issue.

Meta (Facebook) laying off 13% of its workforce. Must be well over 50K people laid off in tech these last few weeks. I wonder how easily they will find jobs. Could be tough times in that sector.

Musk is a twat, but this is what happens when executives forget they have actual product managers they pay good money to actually think through the implication of these sort of changes.

mDAU is a measure that is key to advertisers that identifies how many potential real customers there are on a platform. Before the purchase, twitter was claiming their bot removal efforts was culling half a million accounts a day from this figure. Twitter then experiences mass lay offs and the mDAU suddenly increases by about half a million a day and Musk lauds it as a success
