No. It is one of the more bizarre stories of this summer.
He is one of these European players with US eligibility the USSF goes looking for and brings into their development system. He played at most youth levels for the US and then recently was in line for a senior call up. At that point the Dutch stepped in to see if he had interest in representing them, but it never felt legit. They had showed no interest in getting him to play at any of their junior levels, and it seemed like this was more an insurance move in case he became good and was by that point not eligible, than because he had all of sudden jumped the numerous players in their youth system they had been preferring. But then shortly after he was linked to both Barca and Bayern. And I feel like I am the one taking the crazy pills.

If you’re referring to the clause, it’s a must in Spain.
I think it’s more the amount. These buy-out clauses are getting silly now. Sooner or later someone will challenge it and they’ll be voided if unreasonable.
