Deadline day is when you see a massive amount of young players finally get their loan deals announced - so of course the Premier League scheduled 7 U21 matches for today. 
So of their much heralded acadmy that had 3 top prospects routinely on their bench and going into this season hoping to fill in for some of the more established players who have moved on - Palmer was passed over in favour of 100m in expenditure on 2 players one of whom is even younger than he is, and McAtee has gone on loan.

The quality they can afford to not have at the club every season is crazy. Borges, Charles, Mebude, Palmer and Trafford would all be the stars of pretty much any other academy in the country - all flogged this summer (albeit they got pretty decent fees for a few of them).
Then they also have Doyle and Harwood-Bellis on loan - both would be at least heavily used squad members in anyone outside the top 6.
