The Arsenal Thread (Part 1)

goal

The Atlético Madrid delegation had to leave the Emirates Stadium without showering due to a lack of hot water.:shower:

Players were sweating and rushing back to the hotel to shower because there was no hot water after the official training session.:face_with_steam_from_nose:

There was a huge sense of anger within the delegation.

Absolutely disgusting treatment, UEFA should definitely look into this and maybe even issue a suitable punishment, like kicking them out the tournament.

What these stats don’t reveal is that while Arsenal are playing as well as can be expected, we are at our worst.

I’d take their best against our best anytime.

Success is all about marginal gains. Was it Everton who Halaand scored against from a corner/free kick after making space for himself by farting on his defender? These days everyone is doing the basics. To win you have to search for an advantage everywhere.

I’m not trying to look for excuses, because they are playing much better than us, but I think our start has been much harder. We saw what happened when they played us.

It’s the sad reality of what football has become that this is what the eventual PL champions will look like - what an absolute circus football is when a side can set piece their way to a title, and they will be winning the PL this season because there are no worthy challengers.

…and the pressure of being top is beginning to show :0)

I’ve just had an embarrassing experience on another social media site. I referred to Arsenal fans as “Gooners” which I always thought was a friendly nickname for Arsenal fans.

I am now reliably told that is is modern argot for people who participate in extended sessions of masturbation.

Who decides this crap, and why am I never at the meeting when it’s agreed?

Arsenal fans have been gooners since time began - in both meanings of the term so don’t worry Whip, you are correct either way

A quick Google does confirm the other. TBH, I’ve taken to googling in incognito mode as the slightest innocent query seems to offer up something rude. (And that’s even without my son taking the piss out of me.)

So it’s an Americanism? “A prolonged edging session”, according to Anne Hathaway…

Yeah, I suppose it realates to that sort of look on one’s face during these moments…

Probably. I still can’t convince my elderly mother that Americans think that “faggot” is a homophobic slur. She still thinks it’s a useless lazy person. I thought I had explained it to her, but now she thinks Americans find meatballs offensive.

Gabriel played for Brazil yesterday and came off injured with what looks like a muscle injury

Shame

In a friendly no doubt. Groin, could be back for the NLD, might be out a while. Might be a ruse…albeit his angst at coming off looked real. Califiori missed international duty too.

Arsenal are pretty well stacked with CB options with Mosquera, Hincapie, and Ben White available. Califiori can do a job there too.

Yeah numbers wise they are more than fine and talent wise should be as well. Where it may hurt them though is he I think as much as anyone (maybe Rice with the quality of his delivery, especially on the inswingers) is central to their strength on set pieces. It might not hurt them defensively but it could blunt their set piece strength

0-0s then.

It’s sort of what scuppered them last time

Some do. They are called “vegans”
