Their biggest problem now is Arteta being cowardly. They’re good at controlling and slow down everything, which is all Arteta wants.
They used to attack with fast overlaps and overloads, but now they don’t dare push their fullbacks up. Their mindset is set on scoring from set pieces and avoiding open football.
They’re hard to beat, but I think they’ll draw a lot.
They will have to go all out for the League (cup) - expect LegoMan would jump at the chance to describe himself as a ‘serial winner’ for the remainder of his career. I expect a lot of snide in the final whichever side we play.
I couldn’t watch the 2nd half, and had a long day through the afternoon. I managed to check the score, see the coverage, and saw Arteta’s comments. Just watched the 2nd half.
I had the overwhelming impression that Arsenal had dropped 2 points because an incredibly dodgy penalty had been called against the Gunners with mere seconds left in the match. Imagine my surprise to see that an Arsenal defender had headbutted a Brighton player in the side of the head with with what turned out to be damn near 40 minutes of football left to play.
Yeah but in that “blistering form” they’ve played Leicester, Ipswich, Villa (but at home, and with a red card to Durán after 32 minutes), United LOL, and an injury-decimated Spurs. Oh and Brentford in the League Cup. It remains to be seen if that’s an actual purple patch or if it’s just the luck of the games.
That said, they’ve already beaten Arsenal once this season.
Don’t participate in European competitions then? I mean, it’s not like there are 6 other clubs facing that too… That said, they could take a leaf out of their neighbours’ book and be 12th so they don’t have to face European competition next season.
My memory might be playing tricks on me but I can swear they played some rather positive football and then something changed a year or two ago when Arteta started turning them into high school version of Atletico Madrid.
Granted, they’ve had their injury issues this season, Liverpool fans know these all to well. However, even in the face of adversity, Klopp never compromised his principles - and I hope that neither will Slot if the team ever suffer an injury crisis under his guidance.
Just saw the penalty, stonewall pen. The reason it looks unusual is that defenders are normally more cautious about throwing their head in on a 50/50 when the attacker is going nowhere.
Could he a side-effect of being allowed to get away with whatever they want on set-pieces all season has led Saliba to forget he can’t always assault people. Could also be a sign of the pressure the players are feeling trying to keep up with us, Saliba was in panic mode.
I have no idea how it’s even remotely contentious. Hearing some of the shit pundits say it’s harsh/ never a pen/ blah blah blah
It wasn’t a coming together, saliba tried to play the ball, Pedro beat him to the ball, and saliba fouled Pedro. In my opinion it’s very similar to a goalkeeper coming for a punch, missing the ball, and hitting the attacker. That’s a pen every day. Fucking delusional twats
