The Arsenal Thread

Always the pessimist!

Listening to the 2 Robbies gushing over Arsenal’s defense and how they don’t really need a striker reminds me of all the love ManU were getting after they too beat ManC.

When Arsenal beat someone good 5-1, we can do this. But right now, City are just bad.

Yeah, it’s a good win for Arsenal, but there is also City’s obvious current issues in this ‘value’. Due to a number of reasons, I think we never went 10 or more points ahead of Arsenal, which in my books means they were never out of it. And they remain a high quality side in this league, in some phases of the game they’re the best. There is more work for us to be done. And for all those talks about the leaders and chasers, it’s very, very simple for me: I’d always choose to be the leaders at the top. Even if it’s by a point or a goal. So we have a good situation that we have to try and capitalize on.

I’m not I just think a bit of hubris goes a long way. We’ve not won it. Refs are twats and injuries can be a killer.

We are in a good place and I’d rather be chased than chase but that’s all.

I’ve analysed the game elsewhere and at 1-1 it’s what Man City deserved. They can claim a battering and it’s a bit embarrassing result for Man City but I would say it’s no different from some of our 30 minute performances.

We battered Brentford a couple of weeks back but only scored in injury time.

Positive for me is we saw off a very tough match on Saturday which has seen others falter.

Apparently there is an angel that suggests hes offside on the initial shot before it comes off the post.

I do think it’s a little early to be celebrating but I’d rather be us than them

Its them who is making the bigger deal.

Let them boost their credentials.

All we need to do is keep doing what we’ve been doing so far this season. Win the matches.

Nothing scary about it, shot against the post leaves keeper in a no win position and the guy blasts over.

I’d be concerned if this was common and a goal was left open for no apparent reason.

Of course if the actual shot is on target Alisson probably tips it wide for a corner.

The English press seems keen to showcase plucky Arsenal as the underdog. They probably are London based and arsenal do have a sizable following.

It’s just that targetting those demographics is an attempt to generate more revenue.

I don’t mind them doing that. More eyes on Arsenal and the shithouses means that we go under the radar and probably win the damn thing.

In the meantime , establishing ourselves as the team which doesn’t rely on setpieces , the players not being obnoxious twats , the manager being a general class act and the style of football being the best.

Look, I truly believe they should be. Fuck, they could only dream of our list. Backs, forwards, mids, keepers, there may be a couple of individuals that would get in our squad, but generally our squad wipes the floor with theirs. I don’t even see it as a fair contest.

We really shouldn’t be seen as the underdog any more.

Bit much even for me. I would have waited till March before posting that.

This is one of my big boring issues I cannot let go, but I was incredibly disappointed by Arsenal’s timidity in their face up against City at the end of last season. City were winning but not playing well and he had just watched them get outplayed by Liverpool in a way that had never happened in the Pep era. The things Liverpool did to cause them so much trouble were the things on which Arsenal up to that point had based their rise. A win against city would have put them in pole position in the 3 way title race and put meaningful distance between them and city. But they shit it and bored out a draw by playing negative risk free football.

This performance yesterday was the one they should have put in against them last year. Had they done so they would have won the title. Finally getting the balls to meet a rival on the front foot gave them the win this time around, but it will almost certainly be too late this time.

Just saw the result. 5-1, wow. Cheaty aren’t their usual self this season. Good.

We are now 14 points ahead with a game in hand. It was already diffcult for them, but it’s clear now that they won’t recover from this, and they’ll have to battle very hard for their top four status, against the likes of Newcastle, Forest and Chelsea.

Arsenal on the other hand are still in this. Let’s hope that we can win the next games as well, in order to keep things very clear at the top, fingers crossed!

And yet at 1-1 it seemed much the same.

And it’s probably why there are more slip ups in them than we factor in.

Arsenal are making more of a race of it, and the media is lapping that up because it is a better spectacle than a procession, if the leading team is barely challenged.

As it happens, nothing changed at the weekend. We both won, the gap is still 6 points, and we still have a game in hand.

I suppose the one thing that did change is Arsenal now have one game less to overtake us. There’s still a long way to go and things can change quickly, so I’m not celebrating anything yet. Beat Everton after the cup games and it will look that much better again.

I don’t think many would agree. City’s goal was pretty much against the run of play. They could have been 3 down already by the time they scored that equalizer.

Oh I must have been watching a very different game then.

Not sure how Arsenal could have scored 3 goals before the City goal considering they had only put 2 on target.

Plus Raya saved two one which could easily have gone in. First 10 mins they were on them but the rest half was pretty even and Man City had more of the ball and the better of the chances, all I can remember from Arsenal was that Havertz chance.

Seriously 1-1 was about right at that point. Most reports back me up if you read live commentary.

My take was it was nowhere near a 5-1 game, and everything went right for Arsenal in terms of goals, but Arsenal still deserved to win.

They did overall. I was saying up to the equaliser. At that point there was very little between the two sides the stats say that and the commentary of the game backs that up too.
