Even Moyes, the man famous for not having to win things to be a winner, has only gone 440 days since his last trophy
Is it a record for lasting more than 5 years at a major PL club without winning a big trophy?
I think Wenger had quite a barren streak too.
You’re right.
That makes Asretita their runners-up as Specialist in Failure.
The perrenial bridesmaid.
1 billion spent to park the bus and look for set pieces as your only chance of scoring. More needs to be said about this fraud of a manager.
Scamikel
They do turn up against the top sides at Old Trafford. It’s the games against the rest of the sides their real game will show up I hope.
It’s arteta. Too intent in following Pep without having the nous on coaching strikers.
From today’s BBC live chat:
Viktor Gyokeres’ Arsenal debut saw him end a run of 69 league games in which he has had at least one shot.
You have to go back to April 2023, when he was playing for Coventry City against Blackburn Rovers, for the last time the Swede failed to record a single shot in a league match.
Not sure if that means United’s terrible defense is better than those he faced in Portugal or Arsenal just need to learn to play with a striker.
Arteta will be whinging about our big spending and how he hasn’t been able to go out and buy 2 strikers if we get Isak before we play them.
On Gyokeres, I think it’s still far too early. He needs to get up to speed in terms of fitness, having missed a chunk of pre-season with Sporting in order to force a move, and also having to adapt to his teammates, and vice versa.
Annoying that Yernited gifted Arsenal 3 points. I know when we go to Old Trafford, it’ll be massively tough, but hopefully other sides will be better at exploiting Arsenal’s weaknesses.
For me, this isn’t really an issue - there is often a circumstantial aspect to winning things that might not reflect the actual ability of the team. For example, given the performances of ourselves and city over much of the last decade, you can be a really good team and still get a look in (like Spurs for much of the 2010-19 decade for example)
The problem is more about Arteta’s language about how good Arsenal are and why results don’t go their way, and the comparison’s he uses to claim that they are better than everyone else. It’s all ‘fake news’…and aimed to generate hostility amongst the fanbase towards anything outside the club that doesn’t go along with his narrative.
Arsenal were lucky to get away with 3 points.
When good players take a while to settle in at a new club in a new league you invariably still see glimpses of what they are capable of even during periods of struggle. Gyokeres looked more like a pub league player than a premier league player yesterday and to my eye showed not a single moment of anything that would offer encouragement or a signal of potential. The likelihood of bridging that gap is incredibly small and one I have never bridged before for a player of this cost and level of expectation
As a compare/contrast (hopefully this doesn’t lead to egg on my face) but from the first minute we saw Ekitike, he looked a player. Great movement, silky touch, battled hard, shielding and fighting for the ball, came deep looking for it, passed well and showed a composed finish.
I don’t know how high his ceiling is going to be, and how much the possible signing of Isak will make a difference if Ekitike is moved or rotated, but the first glimpse we have had of him tells us the lad can definitely play, and we have every reason to be hopeful about what he might do.
He wasnt that tidy
I do agree that his performance was garbage. I think a better indicator will be Arsenal’s next game, which at home against Leeds. I think playing away in traditionally one of your side’s biggest fixtures can be excused. If he stinks the gaff out against Leeds, then I think it may be a slight concern.
I bet after all this, he scores against us at the end of the month.
