The Case For The Defence

I know some are playing a lot of games, but those were some very weak reactions near the end of tonight’s game.

Virgil asking for a non-existent foul, Konate’s positioning and lack of reaction, Jones’ pass from deep to Alisson, Alisson’s poor kick, a lack of pressure on Andre, Gomez as usual turning his arse on shots.

Disappointing way to concede/lose that game, when it looked like we might actually turn it around moments before.

Konate was way too close to Virg on their 1st goal irrespective of Virg being weak

None of them bar maybe Jacquet are ready to start. In fact, most of those transfers are pure bettings.

Leoni, fitness permitting, looks to be a good step further along than the three youngsters we bought recently. His injury was a real shame.

I fully expect Jacquet and Leoni to be in the first team squad next season.

Van Dijk hasn’t missed a premier league game this season. At 34 years of age.

I love the man, and he is still the best around on his day. But there are a lot of these lapses happening late in games, that look a lot like fatigue.

He looked and spoke like a broken man , in the interview…is this the begining of the end for his love for this club..

its ridiculous what we are asking him to do…year on year…

any criticism of him is not valid (you can be critical of the moments, but not the man)

he should be in a position where he can be rested and rotated…

i know its old ground, but that whole Quansah - Leoni - Guehi merry go round really fucked us over - we should have at least two of those players, if not all three,

I didn’t see anything particularly unusual or different from his past interviews.

And especially don’t doubt his “love for this club”, don’t know why that of all things would come into question.

Just saw it briefly.. he looked like a man dragging 4/5 bods uphill…and had a look on his face that said’ how long can I do this for…(dragging the bods uphill)..think Robbo could give him some moral support…he probably does anyway…but just felt for him last night…

Van Dijk needs a breather. The lack of quality depth, exacerbated by injuries, has seen him get the short end of the stick. A couple of years ago he would have just iron-manned his way through anyway. But as has been pointed out, he can’t quite do that any more.

I think we have one more year of a top class Van Dijk to go after this one. But we need to get the fella some help. If we do that, then for all we know Van Dijk might even have two more years left at a very high level. Hopefully Jacquet and Leoni will feature more next season, and perhaps we might even sign one more.

Read a stat before yesterday’s game that it was Virgil’s 99th consecutive of the last 100 league games.

Henry Winter has said what John Salako said in the summer Palace were concerned we never had a serious interest in Guehi we never put them on the spot.

Yeah, he only passed half of his medical.

I am a bit biased and all but none of that actually makes any sense.

And they’ve been caught making a similar implausible story on Dwight Neil.

Only goalkeepers have played more minutes than Van Dijk in the PL.

This along with so many other reasons proves why he is such a giant for Liverpool.

If the Netherlands insist on playing him for their next 2 int friendlies, then he cannot feature in the next FA cup fixture. Have to go for Konate and Gomez at CB, or Robbo, or even Willliams, fuk it, don’t matter that much because he has to start every league game and CL if we progress until the season ends.
