The Central Midfield Thread

Klopp just ruled out more signings this month.

Looks like we will be pinning our hopes on a fit Naby. What could possibly go wrongā€¦

Iā€™m not surprised, expected this.

Time to tuck our shirts in and pull a little 20/21.

Gonna be a big blow if we donā€™t make top 4 and win no trophies.

Genuinely, because Iā€™d have to actually look up the precise squad lists on two different competitions otherwise, do we even have enough squad space to bring someone in?

I remember reading something about us having to de-register KeĆÆta so we could register Arthur, but also that Bajcetic can now be shifted to the B list. That still leaves us with no space for one since weā€™ve brought Gakpo in, no?

So Iā€™m surprised itā€™s been so widely expected that weā€™d bring in a new player.

Holy shit! His lateral quickness and first 5 step burst of paceā€¦made City look like plodders!!

Not sure if the image will come through from the cross-posting, but it seems as though Jones is being looked at as a rather versatile option across the midfield.

Any signing will be a massive gamble, unless we are dealt with a massive slice of luck. And Luck has been fucking us since the beginning of this season.

Even if we spend 80-100 million on some midfielder thereā€™s no guarantee that he will settle down soon enough to make an impact. Not to mention, he can get injured as well.

Maybe Bajčetić will play the Nat 2020 role this season. Form & fitness of Henderson and Fabinho is crucial too.

The situation is dire. But I have seen worse days. Come on Reds, raise hell.

Okay I know youā€™re trying to put a positive spin on things but please donā€™t tell me either/or/both Caicedo and MacAllister wouldnā€™t make a difference in our midfield.

And if youā€™re worried about a new signing getting injured, well, then letā€™s not sign anyone ever again coz gosh you know they might get injured in their first match :man_facepalming:t2:

Itā€™s okay to feel more than one thing about a situation. We can be fucked off by the current situation but as the same time hope for the best and, as always, support our club to the hilt!

really tough to justify a 10th midfielder to the ownership group, Iā€™d think. guessing theyā€™re mandated to drop some salary before signing more. 9 players for three spots, this is highlighting some recruitment decisions which have gone sideways over the years and now we have to ride it out

Well weā€™ll see what happens in the summer then wonā€™t we.

4 of them guaranteed to be gone, 2 of them are past it and 2 of them arenā€™t good enough/ready.

Leaving a 32 year old Thiago with maybe 1 more decent season left in him.

So what the fuck is our long term strategy?

in guess who if you were to ask ā€œis he injury proneā€ youā€™d lose all of them

guess who silly sam GIF by Tierra Whack

why donā€™t you pickup the phone to Jurgen and ask him? heā€™s the one holding all the cards.

Bitching and whining in threads like this and the FSG thread which is why I stopped reading it for the most part. nobody complaining when we were in four cup finals last season and played EVERY game there was available. Iā€™ve never even heard of that before, going for a quad.

Squad is tired, they couldnā€™t get the transfer in that they tried for (Tchouameni) and PlanB loan move flopped. it happens. Have to wait a year now, looks like no room in squad for a 10th midfielder.

All the tantrums over spilled milk are for naught. This is where we are, and Iā€™m sure nobody cares more than the club. But contracts are indelible so they must run their course.

Iā€™d actually plan on asking him in person if home tickets werenā€™t so fucking hard to come by these days.

Yes it comes across as bitching an whining, but read between the linesā€¦everything posted is for good reason, valid questions left unansweredā€¦what was there to complain about before May when everything was going right?

The fans voice will never be for naughtā€¦maybe we were so caught up in the moment of competing on all fronts that the club neglected the preparations behind the scenes which were needed in the summer, ultimately leading us in failing to act where needed.

If so, then thereā€™s no reason to believe that any new addition wouldnā€™t suddenly become injury proneā€¦

Still beggars belief that we somehow failed to move Naby Keita and AOC off in the summer to recoup some money and actually extended Milnerā€™s contract.

It is also weird that we actually gave a then 31 years old Jordan Henderson a long term contract for a player that was reaching past his prime. Given his advanced age in footballing terms, there is practically no resale value and the value he provides on the field is diminishing as the years go by.

Itā€™s ok to treat players like family but at the end of the day, Top flight football is ruthless business for every one involved. Any weakness will see your rivals catch you up.

In this case, our weakness is the inability to move players on and too much focus has been placed on leadership while neglecting the physical aspect to the game. This has hampered our midfield rejuvenation and led to the current situation where we got too many midfielders but the value provided is not immediately apparent.

this is not surprising, if youā€™re paying attention to how the club operates over the past 10y.

I do wonder how much youā€™d have expected us to generate from sales of those two?

Final year contracts, one is injured for most of the year the other just hasnā€™t been anywhere near the levels he was.

Suppose the question is how much would you expect Liverpool to spend?

Donā€™t think itā€™s the fee weā€™re concerned about. Itā€™s more the squad numbers reduced and wage bill as well

The players did not want to leave.

itā€™s almost like nobody has been paying attention to the new trend of free agency. refusing to move on your last 12mo when youā€™re on a fat contract, picking which club you want to go to next in advance and then getting a nice signing bonus from the new club who didnā€™t have to pay a transfer fee.

Nobody is picking up Oxā€™s salary level for him, so heā€™s going to see his contract out making as much money as possible before his next declining contract. Likely at a London based club close to where his family is, where he grew up.

Naby will go someplace warm like Marseilles or Monaco or Napoli and collect 40-50k/week for the next 3-4 years.

Milly will move to Kirkby as a youth coach. Melo return to Juve.

I expect to see some signings announced in May/June. nothing before then. Hopefully we are in Europa next season.
