Scientists are urgently investigating hints the new variant of coronavirus spreads more easily in children.
If proven, this could account for “a significant proportion” of the increase in transmission, they say.
The claim comes from members of the government’s New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats advisory group (Nervtag).
And the government’s response?
On Monday, Boris Johnson said he wanted to open schools in January “if we possibly can”.
Isn’t one definition of insanity repeatedly making the same mistake with the expectation of a different outcome?

I assume their thinking is that if kids are back at school the parents are then back at work. Looking at the numbers yesterday that is just a folly

The government seems to be hanging its hat on a regime of mass testing in schools. Unfortunately the scheme appears to be in chaos with confusion as to how the plan will work.
Meanwhile, there are rumours that SAGE has advised against a return to school.
And an analysis from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine researchers has found that the only scenario that reduced the peak intensive care burden below the levels of the first wave was to impose the tier 4 system across England after Boxing Day and close schools until the end of January, as well as vaccinating 2 million people a week.
I have no doubt the government will dither and prevaricate until forced into yet another U-turn.

At least we had summer to occupy us last time.
We went to my mum and dads doorstep on Boxing Day but it was freezing so we only stayed 30 mins.
My lad came round Boxing Day, only to be rang by his mum saying his brother has tested positive who he saw on Xmas day…great…he went for a test Immediately and it came back negative so hopefully we are all ok. Ive told him to get another one in 5 days to be double sure.

It’s beyond following the science now. Simple logic and common sense (which seems to be remarkably uncommon) is all that’s needed.
What’s the bet on Wales and/ or Scotland locking down while England hold onto the second week in January before doing yet another U turn?

Well, according to some, all countries are falsifying coronavirus fatalities. Presumably because doctors get some kind of financial incentive or something. I guess it would be Soros who is paying that?

The conspiracy i’ve seen are that the UK, and others probably count every death as a Covid death if that person tested positive in the4 weeks beforehand. They argue that in many cases these people die from other health conditions.
These people would probably argue that AIDS never killed anyone.

It is a myth that Kreml always lies. They don’t, quite often they are very honest. However they always lie when it is politically advantageous to do so. Every time, unless someone blurts out the truth by mistake (happens).
In this case Putin and his boys have used the “lower” numbers for some spin. Minor compared to spins they often do that are much more advanced and crazy (like feeding the Russian media 8 versions of the MH17 downing, not one of them implicating the separatists and GRU, but creating so many spins that ordinary Russians don’t know facts from bullshit, as filtering becomes hard for them ).
For us observers though, haven’t we always known that they only counted the Corona dead who had autopsied? Certainly, this has been known to a Russian friend of mine The only unkown for them, according to her, was the actual number, most informed Russians, and every Westerner who wanted to know, knew this, it has been criticised by a lot of Russians very openly in Russia; Kreml just doesn’t like commenting that much upon it.
So I don’t think you can say that this is a “grand lie”, of the Russian type. It is not as if this was not openly debated a lot in Russia. Many people knew they were only counting the autopsied corona dead.
However, the unknown here for me, are the several doctors who have fallen out of windows. Did Kreml try to suppress all of this, and then just gave up completely when they figured it would be impossible ? Had it been another state, I would not claim this was a possibility, since it is so inhumane, but in Russia it is possible. If so, they miscalculated, such numbers cannot be hidden and it has been discussed in the open by ordinary Russians for some time. And yet, we have several suspicious deaths. Some of them may have been suicide, at least one of the doctors was thought to have killed himself due to stress and grief, but he wasn’t the only one. Some of these have died very late as well, after most Russians “knew” that many more had died from Covid than official numbers. It is important to note that Kreml is vindictive though, so if someone had released information Kreml thinks is treasonous to release, a hit could be launched months after for spite and to instill fear in other public servants. But of course, this is just speculation. It is some what informed speculation though, such as that goes. But far from completely. Russia is complex for an observer.

This comes right after the reports of the many hundreds of quarantine British tourists that had fled from a hotel in Switzerland (I mean, what the fuck !), and these are not from the poorer segment of the population at all; they don’t go on skiing resort holidays to Switzerland.
Seems to me that there is a social problem with Brits and not taking the virus seriously. For this, the Right Wing political Sphere as well as the media sphere in the UK should be pointed to in my opinion, they have played it down and it is bizarre to me that the UK government has not been more forceful with their advice and restriction given how much infection there is the UK. It is simply unacceptable that so many goes on holidays abroad. Norwegians don’t do that apart from a few novel cases, since we at least, have the “we are all in this together” pov, and those who travel are brutally shamed and reported to police if they break quarantine.
I don’t get why Brits are so incredibly selfish and irresponsible, so many of them anyway. The back and forth governing of the government must surely bear the brunt of the blame. I can’t imagine that so many Brits had behaved like this if they had been given clear and sound advice since the start, and I can’t imagine that the influx of conspiracy theories in the right media spehere does not play a role.

It’s not purely Thatcher’s fault, of course, but she was one of the loudest cheerleaders for the neoliberal individualistic mantra which has led us to the sorry state we (and I don’t just mean the UK) are in today.
