That is a horrific number - the US was at a brutal pace of 4k/day, which was startling enough, but the UK rate would mean 8k/day in the US. The wrangling over deaths per capita made me use Spain as a comparator - it was close at one point, but the UK is now 200/million higher. The UK will overtake Italy in a couple of days.

Rather relieved here, a week ago things were headed in the wrong direction, but the R-number has been brought down below zero. In a matter of days we have gone from ~150 cases per day to 40 per day. Hospitals are still on the ropes, one more week at the prior rate would have been disastrous.
it’s shocking really. The only consolation is that case numbers are down on last week. Whether they continue to drop we’ll have to see.

What I struggle with is how you get people like Julia Hartley-Brewer that are happy to go into work every day and their job is basically to spout bull crap. In her case its often dangerous bull crap. She cant honestly believe half of it can she?

Decided to put this here as there is a link to Covid vaccines but this caught my attention. Yeah the source is awful but I’ve looked wider and it is out there. I cant confirm the Mail’s claim that people are bein trialed or treated with it but the people behind this and the Covid vaccine’s are special stuff.
Yes, this was reported a couple of weeks ago. Amazing breakthrough and hopefully it will open the door to providing treatments for a whole host of other related conditions.
Cologne is now sequencing every single postive test, checking for variants. Much better than what the federal government has been able to come up with.
It is. The potential is absolutely massive here.
It really is critical that more countries increase their sequencing, although Germany probably has a somewhat similar variant population to that in the UK.
In particular, I’d like to see the developed world helping Brazil and South Africa with that, those two variants scare the hell out of me. Brazil might be problematic because of their idiot Federal government, but South Africa’s CDC may be doing the most valuable work in the world right now.
