The Corona Pandemic

That is true, but it’s a big if and we’ve seen it not be the case in many places (not necessarily due to hesitancy, but often due to logistical challenges).

I see that the President of the EU Council is now fucking up making false claims. Whatever VDL’s got is proving to be catching.

I’ve got to ask, what the hell have they been doing over there? It’s like they’ve set their own house on fire.

Am I correct in saying that in the UK you can choose which vaccination centre you can visit to get vaccinated? Given that centres are usually only delivered one brand of vaccine, would it actually be possible to identify the site likely to carry the Pfizer vaccine (capability of ultra-cold storage)? Or are vaccines being delivered from a nearby hospital daily and therefore there are no storage requirements? Would make sense that this is happening just from a security standpoint.

Deflection. Make a mess of vaccine procurement, then rather hold your hands up…make false claims about vaccine companies, make false claims about contracts, false claims about efficacy, false claims about trade restrictions, actually embargo vaccines, threaten the GFA, make false claims about COVAX, make hypocritical statements about vaccine nationalism and wanting fair distribution (not about being first in the queue etc)…all seemingly because of the point at the outset…make a mess of vaccine procurement.

This is utter madness, a proper reliable test can’t turn over the crappy DIY quick ones? I give the government till Monday to U-turn. Idiots.

Some back peddling by the EU on this

Still misrepresentation of reality. Some brass neck blaming UK for UK first policy. Given how they demanded that AstraZeneca priotise their contract (over UK one) , and banned export to Australia.

And refused to be part of Covax because it would slow down getting vaccines to EU citizens. That’s defensible, incidentally, but don’t then try and claim we’re all in this together when you realise that your own fuck ups have left you behind the eight ball.

Honestly, that more shit from Dr Liese in your video. It’s a joke.

Why do you continually see it fit to be totally disingenuous to everyone on the forum? I just don’t get your angle on consistently spreading Russian style disinformation.

The EU are writing their own bad news stories. Your lies are not even necessary.

I think @Kopstar has been injected with the Russian vaccine.

Sorry, you’re wrong. Again. I said nothing about the EU not funding covax, it might even be the second biggest single funder of the WHO program after the UK. [Actually, after the G7 summit last month the EU may now be ahead of the UK, and the US has, now, also committed substantial funds (now the largest single donor). Covid vaccines: G7 increase support for Covax scheme - BBC News]

I am talking about their decision to not participate in procuring vaccines through covax because it would be too slow, too expensive and they needed to prioritise vaccinating EU citizens.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-eu-who/in-change-of-tack-eu-leaves-door-open-to-covid-vaccines-purchase-through-who-idINKBN25T1J0?edition-redirect=in

EU states have committed not to enter into parallel negotiations with the same vaccine manufacturers with which talks are ongoing at EU level, but this “does not exclude the possibility to take part in negotiations with other vaccine companies through COVAX,” an EU Commission spokesman said.

That would represent a change of policy after the EU executive had advised the 27 EU governments not to purchase vaccines through the WHO scheme deeming it slow, expensive and legally incompatible with the parallel EU procurement programme, EU officials said in July.

The apparent change came after the WHO softened in August the terms for rich countries to join its scheme, which aims to secure 2 billion doses for the 20% of the world’s most vulnerable people by the end of 2021.

It also followed criticism that the EU was effectively undermining the WHO initiative, despite projecting itself as a champion of multilateralism and as a supporter of equitable access to vaccines for all.

By forcing EU states to buy only through an EU scheme, the Commission could reduce the limited amount of doses initially available to less developed countries, because it would prioritise the 450 million EU citizens, effectively replicating nationalist policies of the United States and other countries critical of the WHO initiative.

Nope. @JU97ICE seems to like to wrongly accusing me of lying. It’s tiresome.

Lets cool it down lads. You hold different views. No need to escalate. Incendiary language does nothing for debate. And I know that’s what you both like. You like the debate.

Its starting to cross that border into being personal. Thats not good for anyone.

** I did look for a kiss and makeup gif. But all I found were people humping. Which is probably not appropriate !

Different views isn’t an issue. Being falsely (and regularly) accused of lying is. Throwing around such baseless smears doesn’t suggest any good faith interest in proper discussion.

Tempers flare in debate.

Often this is based on communication/understanding. Its easy to get the wrong end of the stick. We have all done it. That leads to playing the ball rather than the man. Thats my reading of the situation here. Misunderstanding, emotional response, accusations of misrepresenting the truth.

If that happens a few times it starts to become personal. Something neither of you wants.

What I am doing is taking the sting out of this. You are both good posters, you both offer great insight from different perspectives. I am just asking for a mutual respect.

Like shaking hands after a game. What said, has been said. Lets draw a line and move on.

Ok, I get you. Apologies that I misunderstood you were referring to taking part in the procurement.

You framed your post like the EU were one of the few self-funded economies that are not procuring through COVAX. Is there a single developed nation that hasn’t done bilateral deals with vaccine manufacturers to jump the queue? A single one? Why have you singled out the EU from the other 80 high income nations?
