1 in 4 Parisians leaving Paris to other areas of the country to escape the further restrictions that Macron has ordered. Scenes of SNCF absolutely packed. Every region in France not called Hauts-de-France, Paris or Nice are going to be absolutely fucked in 3 weeks time :man_facepalming:. Fucking Parisians.

And it’ll be exactly the same in the UK this summer. As soon as overseas travel restrictions are lifted, all the fuckwits will be going on their holidays and bringing back all sorts of weird and wonderful strains.

I know its a bit extreme… But we should shut the borders and tell everyone to holiday in UK…thus reducing the chances of other covid strains coming back to UK, also holidaying in UK would help the tourism industry and help tourism restart…I understand not everyone would agree but …it’s a thought.

That’s exactly what we should be doing. Which means we won’t.

It’s going to be really, really interesting how our populist PM handles the spring and summer. With the UK almost certainly being in a better position than the rest of Europe, I think I might even enjoy watching him trying to resist the urge to open everything up to an increasingly agitated population.

It’ll be some winy ‘its my right to go on holiday’ bods who would kick the idea into touch…these bods should think about everyone who has stayed at home, stayed away from people, disinfected, washed hands and followed the rules of lockdown…

And they’ll be the first ones to complain when there’s another lockdown proposed in the autumn.

no. It goes like this.

“Spend your money, then fuck off”

In reality there’s some sense to it really. Keeping money within the UK for a short time might help a lot of businesses recover. Perhaps not the tour operators but all those shops and stuff that rely on holiday trade.

The reality is that most places welcome tourists, especially where the economy relies on it. Problem is they sometimes stay too long and kind of misbehave (that’s a high level general view) .

Plus it will be better for the environment.

If that was the aim the best thing they could do is this summer make off peak rail travel free.

Open up all national trust and english heritage for free. A 4 month window to promote the best of the UK.

The associated spending boost to the economy would more than outweigh the costs. It would be more effective way of boosting patriotism than flag waving.

And all the tourist venues that close in November… Keep em open right thru’ to March.

Yes, on that note automatically extend all young person’s rail cards for a year without charge given they’ve hardly had the chance to use them for most of the last twelve months.
