The Netherlands vaccinations 21 March 2021: 27.762.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is Director-General of the World Health Organisation
I don’t like that. This should never be about saving face or a matter of principle, not when it involves lives lost or potential loss of life.
Yes, this would go far beyond vaccine nationalism. It would be outright theft, with no concern for any consequences outside of the EU.
Hypothetical question.
As the UK is advanced in its vaccine numbers, is there a moral case for allowing nations with a greater need to have some of those vaccines destined for the UK, provided all vulnerable groups are covered and there’s no risk to those waiting for the 2nd jab?
Berlin bureau chief for the Economist.
Yep, 100%. I think that’s what the UK has already partly proposed.
Morally sure. But the last thing this UK government will think about is lives lost outside their borders. You can see that with the attempt of slicing foreign aid with some pretty shitty tactics recently.
However, if they see this as a photo op, they will time this just after the EU arsefuck themselves again and throw Boris in front of the camera with 7 Union jack’s flying, and announce after 78% of the UK adult population is fully inoculated that ‘they, unlike some other government bodies are taking the global approach and reject vaccine nationalism in all its forms’. It would never be about saving lives but generating more good press.
I’m not sure that they’re too concerned about lives lost within their borders.
Blimey. What does that say about the rest then? Those who didn’t insist on making an at cost vaccine available globally, who didn’t lead on COVAX, and who don’t provide anywhere near the same level of foreign aid?
Daughter back at high school. 6 days in. 6 cases at the school. Good news is that the regular testing procedure must be working! 12 months late is better than never.
I’m with @cynicaloldgit on this. They’d love an opportunity for a one over on the EU. An opportunity to basically feed the Brexit loving papers / readers and of course deflect things away from the real disaster that has been.
And yet it’s the EU that is making all the waves here. It’s almost like the EU is trying to make Brexit look like a really fucking great idea.
yeah, no argument on that at all.
They’ve completely lost the plot it seems.
All at van der Leyen’s feet do you think? She seems to be the league leader in the stupid comment category.
I remember some posters, especially German ones, being extremely critical towards her when she got in. They seem to have been right.
