The Corona Pandemic

approved in 170 countries around the world, but not the US. don’t forget, big pharma rules the US government lobbyists.

Between Trump’s antics, Afghanistan and the whole treatment or lack of for Covid the US are taking a bit of a pasting right now.

Rightly so I guess.

And who’s quietly rubbing their hands?

Yes, not yet approved in the US because THE COMPANY HAS NOT SUBMITTED IT FOR APPROVAL. You even presented a source saying as much. There is no conspiracy here.

Interestingly, I made the comment a while ago that the window for them get EUA had probably closed seeing as part of the justification for that is the existence of an unmet need, something that really doesn’t exist anymore. It is interesting therefore that they’ve decided to go down the full approval route, which does not require the agency to consider what other options are available.

goodness man, such vitriol for what exactly?

You must have understood some of the things that had gone on in the background. maybe you weren’t privy to the fact the US had millions of vials of AZ shipped to them and stood in storage in the USA whilst they were waiting for the EUA from the FDA. but with the quiet lobbying of the pharma companies to push the Phizer and Moderna through quickly there was no need to end up using AZ. so all of those doses which were ordered and shipped to the USA ended up being redirected to CANADA. This is why we’re currently over 80% first dose and 70% second dose…

The AZ doses in the US weren’t shipped there. They were made in the US weren’t they? At least a large % were.

What part of “AstraZenica never submitted their vaccine to the FDA for EUA” do you not understand? Even your source confirmed this. The FDA cannot approve something the owner of the product have not asked them to review.

Stock piles of unapproved but manufactured vaccine sit in the US vaults because that was the idea behind operation warp speed. To back numerous research programs, pre-purchase supplies, and have the companies go into production with them before they are approved.

Apparently the FDA are to give FULL approval to the Pfizer vaccine on Monday. Potentially paving the way for the vaccine to be administered to kids under 12.

I am taking my 12 year old to get her phizer vaccine next week (New Zealand).

Not sure I would do it for a child much younger though.

the AZ doses were shipped from the two production facility in DE and MD to warehouses across the country for distribution. apologies if it was inferred they were shipped over water.

you’re correct, I apologize for the err. it wasn’t submitted.

have not been tracking the UK’s situation with Covid recently after the big reopening. How is it tracking now one month after the reopening? Any more next steps that is in line like more mass travel arrangements with other nations etc?

Was talking to my bro this morning who is in Melbourne and told me how they were gathering in his area.

Just don’t tell the protestors in Sydney that they will be in lockdown for at least a couple more months if Aus still has ambitions of getting back to Covid-free*

*Minus the return travellers.

I thought nsw premier is going to reopen regardless? Can she do that legally if not in line with federal or rest of Oz guidelines?

While we’re on the subject…

BTW for the benefit of you guys in the UK, this guy has been deported back to the UK yesterday after his release from prison. Watch out!

IMO they’ve managed to push how bad it actually is to the back of the agenda after shouting “Vaccine rollout” and basically opening up. Basically the population think its over which has arrived with a felling of invincibility after being vaccinated.

That said I’m not sure what the real answer is. There comes a point after such a poor response throughout the whole saga that there almost appears to be a baseline level of infection in the country no matter what you do. Places like New Zealand have basically managed to get that baseline to pretty much zero.

Anyway here are the numbers as of yesterday / this morning

Deaths

These are available on the FT website and you can pretty much load up any country and compare the figures. PS UK government did want you to compare to other countries but stopped recommending that early last year. Can think why, seems really useful idea to me.

At the beginning of this year the UK was 5th or 6th on this list. It’s now 22nd.

I don’t know whether federally Morrison can overrule a state Premier’s decision. But the premier’s tend to succumb to the pressure of the other states leaders when they know the state borders will be 100% closed with any stupid decision.

The continuous lockdown extensions is IMO an attempt to stop the populace rebelling against the lockdown decision. If she right now said they are locked down until late October, like what is probably going to need to happen, then all hell would break loose.

I still follow the FB page of the Qld council I worked for last year, and the comments section is absolutely appalling, verbally attacking those that have had their vaccination and are proud of it (like Australian legend Dawn Fraser). I did a random check of the accounts and every one was a local. I know social media tends to give the loudest voice to the smallest minority but it’s still shocking to see the sheer number of likes given to absolutely disgusting comments about the vaccines. It actually makes me really angry.

Oh ya I did read that Victoria’s Premier and WA’s Premier mentioned that they are definitely going to close their borders to NSW if they stubbornly go against the generally agreed phases of reopening or SOPs of handling the pandemic (or something along these lines - cannot find the article now). It seems that the country is now very split along state lines, if it was not obvious previously, it is now?
