The Corona Pandemic

Waiting for my booster shot for Pfizer, probably in early Dec. We have walk in Moderna booster shots for anyone who has 2 shots of any vaccine, Pfizer, Moderna or Sinovac and at least 5 months after but I think majority still prefer to have the same “brand”, even myself think this way too.

I thought it was best to mix brands

Fascinating insight into UK attitude

Politicians/role models don’t wear them, no shit Einstein that’s because they don’t travel by train …

And that is without the fact that one is responsible for one’s own actions.

That’s exactly the governments line, but the lack of leadership or a role model is a common these throughout the clip. There is no clarity and leadership and people will always default to the easy option i.e. no mask. I’ve said previously that I’ve seen this on construction sites. If there were no rules people would turn up to work wearing whatever they like. There are rules, they are enforced and as a result everyone now conforms. Not so long ago the difference in what people wore to work on sites was pretty wide. Now we’re all like Lego figures.

There’s also more than a slight whiff of not understanding the purpose of mask wearing in the clip as well.

They should not be allowing people on public transport without a mask and fining them if they’re later caught not wearing one, as if they don’t have a valid ticket.

Going back to end of restrictions, wearing face coverings in buildings and public transport should have been retained at the very minimum. It was absolutely stupid to drop that. Nobodies freedom is being impinged by wearing a bit of cloth on their face on the tube. I always wear a mask in shops and I don’t feel in any way less ‘free’.

Something like a thousand people are dying weekly. I wonder how many would still be alive if masks were still compulsory.

But wearing masks on public transport still is compulsory, isn’t it? In the video the sign tells people that they must wear one. It just seemingly isn’t being enforced, which is barmy.

You’re right but isn’t there conflicting advice from government where the basic message is you dont need to wear one at all?
100% mask wearing should have been retained.

I might be out of touch with my info, but I think only in London, and even then it’s a ‘condition of carriage’ rather than a legal duty. You can’t be fined for not wearing one. You can be asked to leave the train or the station.

Edit: It’s advisory only on National Rail. It’s basically only TFL that have made it mandatory, and even then, as you say, they are hardly enforcing it.

I agree that the messaging from government has been poor, particularly the observable behaviour from ministers. But there isn’t anything ambiguous about the signage or the Public Address messages you hear on the video.

I hate those condition of carriage terms - the bane of a law student!

They can be denied entry, at the very least, and they’d only need to tweak the terms slightly to make the failure to wear one a fineable offence.

yep you’re right, clear as day.

With my Engineer’s hard hat on I find the situation completely at odds with the way the Construction industry works. There has been a massive push in law (as you probably know) to push up safety standards and make people accountable. This basically has Engineers and management engaging in massive ass covering exercises but this has also driven up standards especially on PPE.

I now look at this situation and I find it completely at odds where people are free to ignore safety rules, rules not being enforced, risk assessments either not being completed or the actions being ignored. Theoretically speaking the HSE would have a field day if there was a death (for example) that could be linked to poor practice somewhere.

The HSE are scariest bunch of people I’ve ever met.

Do these fuckwits even wash their hands?
Just as important question if not more so.

I get the personal responsibility angle conceptually, it just falls apart when applied practically. People’s view of what is responsible behavior is based on what they view the risk of the behavior is. People don’t intellectualize risk as a result of reading rules and scientific guidance documents. They feel it as a result of what they see and experience. When public figureheads are acting in a way that downplays the risks then the general public will take their cues on what responsible behaviour is from that.

As for the booster, I backed down and got the Moderna yesterday. Woke up this morning feeling like shit, which has really surprised me. Fingers crossed it wares off during the morning as I have a lot of Thanksgiving prep do to this afternoon/evening.

Got Pfizer round 3, plus the flu shot. Rough ride. Watched half of the Wales-Australia rugby match from the weekend with my youngest and went to bed early. Fever dreams of playing Wales rugby until about 2:30 (box kick->chase->ruck for hours), then thought it was morning, but no, just time for another round of Tylenol.

Feeling better this morning, but not much sleep so not feeling great. I don’t have the lymph gland swelling that I got from dose 2, so I attribute much of the overall savagery to the flu shot - which usually messes me up for a night and change.

1st year I’ve actually had this, my new job makes it essential imo considering my health issues. Didn’t get any reaction what so ever.
I would add that I avoid like the plague having multiple vaccins at the same time.
Everyones different, so I hope you get over the adverse effects quickly, they can be a real bummer.

You’re not alone in these dreams

My wife was not best pleased to be sharing the bed with someone repeatedly joining a ruck…
