The Corona Pandemic

Haha. Vaccinated? We need some data.

I won the warm versus cold vacation argument this year! My argument that flying to the tropics would be irresponsible GHG emissions was dismissed out of hand, but the high level of cases in Barbados decided it. February vacation in the Charlevoix won out, and that is looking rather more likely now.

Beta Delta Omicron. Is this a college fraternity or a pandemic?

I think the plan is at the end of the Greek alphabet, they switch to names like ‘Screaming Death’. It will make for better movies.

New variant from Botswana coming.

There’s no doubt in my mind that this is a man made virus.

Hail fauci , hail china

It’s arrived in the UK. Two cases of Omicron detected in Chelmsford and Nottingham.

Not sure why this development would lead you to that conclusion. I don’t think China is being forthright about what happened in Wuhan, but the ‘engineered’ idea remains both unlikely and unnecessary to explain what has happened. We knew in 2005 that in a single cave complex not that far from Wuhan, a Chinese scientist had identified at least 500 discrete virus species that were not understood. The wrong one might have just got lucky, or (my suspicion) escaped due to human error.

Haven’t seen that - who is reporting it?

It’s breaking on Sky News.

That is not great. Mid-size centers like those have tended to have faster turnaround times on tests than the big urban ones, which makes it very likely that somewhere in London some Omicron positive samples are being processed right now. The hope is otherwise, and that they are just very localized.

What are the rules on international air travel? I thought you still needed negative tests before travelling?

A negative test is required, if you’re not double jabbed, in most cases. For travel to the USA, you have to be double jabbed and also provide proof of a negative test.
