The Corona Pandemic

Hear hear.

We all receive updated vaccinations as soon as they become available (5 for wife and I, 3 for kids) and have been fortunate enough to never catch SARS-CoV2.

Anecdotal, but a mate of mine was recently on holiday in the UK and came down with a very serious bout of Covid. Took him two weeks to be able to get back on his feet.
To be honest I’d more or less forgotten about it.

New variant EG.5 is a bit of a bastard, but it isn’t really showing any greater propensity to cause more serious symptoms. Higher breakthrough rate, yet the protective effect of vaccines is holding. I think we have more or less hit the globally endemic state. It will presumably be akin to the flu now.

What happens going forward I see as a concern. COVID and social media combined with some twisted media, and politicians have been a perfect recipe for giving those with loud voices, yet zero expertise equal weight in discussions on vaccines and protective measures. That has only grown recently based on what I’ve seen as people start to twist data.

This is the whole crux of the “both sides” nonsense. It’s not just Covid, though, it’s everything. Hence, an expert is balanced with a crank; a fact is balanced with wishful thinking; the truth is balanced with a lie.

Absolutely right. Then again, top politicians do this on a regular basis a bit everywhere, so no wonder everyone ends up doing it about everything. We truly have arrived in the deep of the post-truth-era, and it’s saddening.

A potential solution to that plight is to fight stupidity, beginning with the one in ourselves.

There is a weird turn that has been taken recently where the vax skeptics have turned from the old bog standard skepticism to having convinced themselves that they’ve been proven right. They all just speak about this with each acknowledging some new found knowledge that just doesnt exist. It really is just a separate universe of “knowledge” that these people inhabit

Isn’t that the truth? The conspiracy theories I’ve been looking at, or should I say been shown (they seem to invade all science based stuff now) is fake moon landings and flat earth. This leads to fake quantum mechanics, and basically all science is fake politically led agenda’s and indoctrination. What I am surprised is how prevalent it seems to be. Quite frightening, especially when you see some of the stuff they come up with.

ton of folks have gotten sick that I know, in last week. including my kid now, non-stop runny nose and a throat cough.

Loads of EG.5 in the Vancouver area right now. Where they bother to test, that is what is being found.

Wife and daughter both had this recently, sick for a couple of days. Me and the lad did not get it. We are all vaccinated and multiple boosted, but I think both me and my son had one more booster, from memory?

Hence I’m all for these people being excluded from society. They can be deplorables who fuck off and die in the desert

Yep agree with George. We mask whenever we mix with the hoi polloi and rarely eat out for this reason.

not going to waste my time getting tested, but I suspect Mrs and I have covid. gone through so my tissues my nose bleeds when I blow it now, so am not taking a decongestant and just dealing with the sinus pressure.

My wife has had something similar which hasn’t shifted for two or three weeks. She has had a couple of Covid tests but both have come back negative. The only thing is that she works as a paediatric nurse and has to work in wards and kindergartens which are essentially like a biological warfare laboratory.

we have a 9yo in school, martial arts and footy. also a petrie dish
