The Corona Pandemic

Per 100,000 population? Spain has had 100,000 covid related deaths in the last month has it?

I think your figures might be a bit off (as usual). On any metric Spain is one of the few countries that’s performed worse than the UK.

Any news on the Moderna approval in the UK? In the US we look on course to provide the same Emergency Use Authorization on Friday we gave to the Pfizer one last week.

I read somewhere yesterday or this morning that Moderna were looking at a Mid January approval.

You just cannot let it be can you. You are wrong ! Deaths per million last 10 days Spain 29.4 UK 35.43 :Up to date as per Statista. Total deaths as of 14th Dec. Spain 47,624 UK 64.170 as per the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
I was going to wish you a Happy Christmas but you`ve blown that now

If you keep spouting lies and pretending they’re truths, yep, I’m gonna call you on that.

On your own figures from this post I’m quoting right now…

Spain’s covid related deaths per million: 1,018
UK’s covid related deaths per million: 943

As I said previously, if you were to go by excess deaths the figures are unfortunately even worse for Spain.

Spain’s figures may well be better than the UK’s over various snapshots of time but over the course of the entire pandemic they’re markedly worse. And the UK’s aren’t great.

Probably the first with this arrangement. While I think its necessary, and do trust the government measures, still makes me tentative.

Is there anybody here that has been part of the mass UK testing? Is it testing only if curently infected or are they doing antibody testing at the same time? I know there are studies showing that those that have had a t-cell response may fail the antibody test and there’s a fairly significant gap there, but it seems to make sense to be at least getting closer to the truth, especially when an area only becomes a target for mass testing once there has been a significant number of infections (and therefore a significant number of asymptomatics missed).

Mass testing is in my area but I’m much more interested if I’ve/we’ve had it than if I currently have it considering the whole family is homebound with all our schools closed down. It seems antibody testing is a blood test though so I can’t imagine they would do at the same time due to cost?

I was part of a random nationwide antibody testing program. I thought that it was flawed in the way they went about it in that you didn’t have to submit the response from the test (a home test kit) in order to get your result. I imagine that skewed the data being fed back.

You got a result without sending the test off??

Eh? How dud you get a result then?

Yes, it’s a home testing kit for antibodies. Pin-prick on your finger, drop of blood on the testing stick, wait for the line to turn red or blue (bit like a pregnancy test except with blood). That then tells you whether you had any covid19 antibodies in your blood. You then are asked to take a photo and submit your result online already knowing the result of the test.

Personally I think the survey would have benefited from being more sophisticated in that the testing stick could then reveal a code for you to submit online that would then tell you the result, thereby guaranteeing more people would log their test responses online as it would be the only way they could know what the result was.

I see that the kit is now available for anyone to register for one (I was part of a random selection back in October). This one appears to be one you have to post back - presumably they’ve gotten wise to the flaw in the one they sent out in October.

This was mine

We designed one in a similar way but without screwing around with the test itself. We simply withheld the instructions for use and instead delivered them in a step by step fashion in our app. That meant for them to be told what the results were they had to answer questions about it in the app and then be told the result.

Honestly, I think that’s pretty admirable. People think about film as being an industry full of rich people, but the majority of people who work to put together a production like that require a regular pay check. For a production like this to go under means 100s of people losing their job and facing questions about how to pay their bills.

Sack the individual at the Mirror who wrote “meters” instead of “metres”. Probably a Canadian
