The Cricket Thread

There was a microsecond between the ball passing bat and the bat hitting pad. If the ball had been edged there would have been a spike for the edge and a spike for the bat hitting pad.
We only saw one spike. Therefore the debate.

It’s all academic now. This match won’t last three days.

If you are having debate over a video call then benefit of the doubt to the batsman or back to the umpires call. Surprising. And no hotspot.

Well Pat won the mind games there.

I love looking at Pat’s delivery graphic. That guy knows how to land them in the exact same spot then produce a tiny variation that brings about a wicket. Nice, slightly fuller delivery.

Exceptional bowler.

I don’t know which feed you are watching but I think Allan Border is one of the commentators and he’s the one with the very drawn out voice. Afaik he is not well. Parkinson’s.

When me and the boys were on the piss last weekend we were debating the best test 11 we have seen - so since the 70/80s.

Just the bowlers for now - I had Lillee, McGrath, Mitch and Warney.

Starc and Pat were in the mix for sure and we argued and argued and drank more.

Geez Bumrah is putting on a show. Fantastic bowling.

This game is a very good tussle.

If I was Australia I would be telling the batsmen to come out and show intent.

Interesting. This looks like the evener upperer for that dodgy snicko. The ball clearly moved on contact with the ground. If you are going to introduce stupid rules that rule out the Starc catch then that surely also must be held to the same standard.

How the fuck can a ball (with these new rules) be resting on the ground but be called a fair catch?

"Yeah…mmmm… Fingers under the ball… " I’m sorry? What???
Just fuck off with that shit.

I think he did have fingers under the ball.

The ball is literally in contact with the ground.

The fingers are underneath it.

Well they weren’t. He had two fingers on either side of the seam as you can see in two frames after which means the curve of the ball bounced on the ground ( from first photo)

I didn’t make the shithouse rule. The ball made contact with the ground. That is clear. The 3rd ump decided to apply the laws differently here. As I say, it makes up for the shit snicko decision.

I see both fingers under the ball. And those dismissals have always been given out.

Great day for bowlers.

But most of the batsmen need to give their head a wobble.

This is a pretty standard 90s 2000s Perth wicket. Maybe a bit more sideways movement but that’s something that’s always expected given the unseasonal rain.

Admire him while he lasts.

Even if he ends his career playing another 30 test matches , he’s going to be up there amongst the greatest bowlers.

You have to take the good with the bad:

The good: that super unique action delivered balls and provide movement that no other bowler in the world can deliver.

The bad: that same action is likely tearing his body apart. So there’s no longevity in it.

I certainly appreciate his bowling though. And it helps that, even though he’s extremely passionate, he doesn’t come across as a dick head.

He’s been bowling that way for a while now and just seems to get better.
You’re right though (for once) about his character. He seems like a genuinely good bloke who plays with a smile.

That’s because he isn’t Australian.
