He is of course 100% technically correct, because it is factual, it is true (and also not just in military-technical innovation, almost everything can be used for civilian purposes).
But even so, I wish he had chosen other less callous words, for it is not he nor Germans who are paying the actual butcher’s bill for this innovation, and one could and should therefore be more emotionally sensitive in choice of wording.
Because while what he says is factual, the cost of in blood and treasure for these, some groundbreaking, innovations is so high. Much too high. I think most would agree that the world could have waited another decade or two for some of these innovations in robotics, AI and drones.
I am reminded of @Cologne-Liverpool’s words when he was elected. I doubt (not going to scroll, as I also have certain bad memories from those days and have no need to remind myself of that) Cologne used the words insensitive brute, but that was more or less what I took from his words at the time and I suppose this is a good example of it. I can certainly see why this man is maybe not the easiest to cooperate with, if these words are representative of how…direct and insensitive he generally is.
Proclaiming to the world media that the war is an opportunity one must grasp with both hands, while technically factual, you just…You just should not say that. Words, such aesthetic words, such words are evocative, sensual for the senses, it helps us picture things. Rather use the words “necessity” maybe to get across your point, “opportunity” in regards to this grusome industrial war tastes like blood and ashes. Like suffering. Like raped women and tortured prisoners. Like executed POWs and obliterated cities. His choice of words evoke thoughts and mental pictures that are not at all just a normal business opportunity.
