Is that your place, Hope?

That’s one aspect of what makes history so special. You can be fascinated by a subject and equally appalled and/or enthralled by it.

If this is a picture from Australia it has no place being in the history thread

I don’t think so. That looks like one of your new fangled modern dunnys with its fancy cistern, ballcock & flush mechanism.

Ned would have been more familiar with the traditional dunny, which was emptied by the “dunny man”, who came round regularly with his “dunny cart”. In other words the archetypal “bucket and chuck it” facility.

Stayed at Amberley ‘castle’ with the family, and visited arundel, I have seen a few north wales castles

I loved them all, one of the most fascinating was the ruins at tintagel

You guys are so lucky to be able to see these up close and personal

As Sybm points out, we in aus don’t have a lot to offer but our range of historical dunnies are world class, just a word to the wise though, sometimes, for some reason, taking a few innocent, discreet photos of the female toilets during the busier times can be frowned on… but that’s another story for another day…

Eilean Donan Castle

Completely, but as kids we were oblivious about it in the way that kids tend to be. Castles were just quiet places you could go at night to get pissed and maybe get to feel up a girl from school. For many of us we didnt realize quite how amazing it was to grow up around them until we’d left and started coming back for visits.

I get a funny tingling feeling every time I jog round a certain park near me…

Yes.

Quite likely any discussion of Australian history will not go down too well around here, if recent conversations are anything to go by…

This caught my eye just now…

Yeah I get that totally, even when you visit from afar after a while you can get blaze about it…love to know some more though, about growing up around them, wonderful monuments to mankind’s genius and bloodthirst, encapsulating the mindset of power hungry tyrants from the ages, let’s start at the beginning…

This feel up the girl thing, details?

We sent you our convicts.

You got your revenge by sending us Kylie.

The end.
