My memory of Man Utd growing up was a team that got the ball forwards quickly and had two strikers. Playing ‘wide’ was, in my opinion, more of a function of quick transition rather than a focus to get the ball out there.

Yeah and it was just how football was back then. That classically Utd side of 93/94 was not much different in shape or approach than the Blackburn side they were competing with, with Ripley and Wilcox out wide pumping balls into the box for Shearer and Sutton.
