The bid is reported to have been over 60m. Mbuemo makes sense for them if you think about Jurgenās train analogy. They have finally realized they need some no frills players who push the train to get it moving before turning their attention back to ābetter playersā who can win them stuff but need the train already moving to thrive. But if they go back in for him with an improved bid heās no longer really in that category. They are getting a train pusher at a premium price.
Maybe its still worth it for them because what matters is they get the train moving. But itās starting to look an expensive deal for a skint club for a player of that caliber.
To be fair to them, this move does appear to be the right one. Heās proven over a few seasons that he can be a top-level player in the league, much in the same way Mane was doing at Sotāon before we got him.
The Cunha deal is much more of a risk, IMO. His temperament issues aside, Iām concerned that he was functioning well at a āsmallerā club like wolves because he was essentially the main man in their attack, and Iām not sure that will translate to a system like Amorimās with the shitty midfield they have over there. With is behavioral issues, I think that one has massive potential to blow up in their faces and theyāve spunked half their transfer budget on him.
It also remains to be seen if Cunha and Mbeumo can function together in those dual #10 roles, which also pushes Bruno back into CM where heās somehow a worse player than before.
All this is to say that I like the Mbeumo get for them, but Cunha is a big risk.
Replace āconcernedā with āfucking gladā or you are starting to sound like Muggsy gone nativeā¦
FACT OF THE DAY!!!
During the pre-match before we stuffed Yantied 7-0 at Anfield, Mark Goldbridge said, āI have so much confidence in our defence.ā
Pushing a train at this stage is still ok, when they start āpulling a trainā, well its downhill from there.
Donāt blame mbuemo and Cunha for jumping to United.
But United will still be fucked.
Is this a new bid today, or the bid from yesterday?
If it is yesterdayās bid it is only Ā£55M with 7.5M in add ons based on winning the C/L, so basically a Ā£55M bid which Brentford rightly said Fuck Off. THey have said since day 1 that it will take Ā£60M or they will keep him
We have been in the position United are in now. There is a limited pool of genuinely good players who are willing to consider them. So those clubs know they can take them to the cleaners, and they will be desperate enough to pay whatever they are told to.
One thing I noted is Edwards shut down the whole process of advertising who we want. Man Utd seem to adverse to this idea.
Yes this stuff leaks but with all the players we signed under that period he seemed to have it under lock and key. We moved away from that a bit
United to sign DCL.
Weakening one of their rivals lol
Is that one of the injuries of the Knee?
Should be ācrimes against footballā.
Stupid Yanited loser.
DCL will win every header against Guehi, they should buy him.
DCL must have a very long neck to be able to win headers from the physio room
I was thinking about creating a new thread about this subject, however seeing as though several players that fit this criteria are utd players, I think I will ask it here and if it balloons into a full on discussion then the mods can move it.
I think this relates to Rashford, Sancho, Antony and maybe even Mount. The strategy they seem to be adopting is stay on inflated salaries at utd rather than taking a significant pay cut and moving to another club.
I was wondering if this was shortsighted from a financial pov?
Option 1: Stay (and loan I guess) and its 12m PA, wind down contract and hope you are still marketable enough to command maybe a lesser wage with a largish signing on fee. Guaranteed 24m (assuming 2 years left).
Option 2: Take a pay cut 8m PA, and sign a 5 year contract (Guaranteed 32-40m)
So if they take option 1, then for this example they need to at least get 16m (5.33m a year) to match option 2.
They will all have the calculators out, trying to work out the best route to maximize earnings. Man Utd have massively overpaid on these contracts, so the players are sitting pretty.
Part of me, due to the redemption arc, would like to see Rashford playing with joy again. When he came through he looked like he had the world at his feet. I think he would have become one of the best had Klopp signed him. But then somewhere along the way it all got a bit much for him, the fans turned, his attitude dropped, and he seemed to lose his passion.
As a football fan I want to see him get it back again, though obviously not at Man Utd. There were a few signs of it at Villa, not much, but more than he had shown at Man Utd for a good while. Good luck to him.
