It needs to be 5 games doesn’t it? Not being in Europe means it has to be 5 PL games and the odd League cup one.

They’ve got Grimsby and Burnley so odds favour back to back wins but they wouldn’t shake his league record. But then it’s Man City, Chelsea and Brentford. They don’t win all of them.

Though if Grimsby beat them I’ll laugh so hard that I’ll probably end in the same orbit that Penandes penalty is.

From the BBC:
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is convinced his side is better off without having a European campaign to distract them this season.

As a consequence of their 15th-placed Premier League finish and Europa League final defeat by Tottenham, United are missing out on Europe for only the second time since English clubs returned to Uefa competition after a five-year ban in 1990.

It’s actually a good thing my wife left me to be with my brother, kept the house, the car and the kids - I now have so much more time to review what went wrong and prepare for the following weekends crushing losses :sweat_smile:

Hmmm, so it turns out Amorim is related to Giggseh - I never knew that

Probably use the same excuse if Grimsby town beat them on Wednesday.

Seen it trotted out a lot of the time but I really have never seen it play out in reality. No one has ever said at the end of the season, oh I’m glad we aren’t in Europe by not being in Europe we’ve been able to qualify for err Europe.

He obviously thinks transfer money grows on trees

Considering their only chance of Europe was winning the Europa and CL it’s not even like they would be in the Conference Europa League.

I do buy the ‘blessing’ of no European football for them, to a point. More time for coaching, preparation and recovery, to do as well as they possibly can in the league.

After cutting costs and letting loads of staff go, they still had plenty of money to buy players, and much as I don’t like them, their transfer business seemed fairly sensible.

If such advantageous circumstances do not end in a Europa spot, at least, the fella is another bust for them.

Yup they should be finishing top 8, but I think when you get to Man Utd that kind of excuse runs thin. Pre season doesn’t seem to have much changed them from a team last season with a lot of huff and no end product. Personal may have changed but nothing has much changed in that.

The other issue I have is the whole idea was he was being rigid to his ideas but his ideas look frankly dreadful and they are playing the same football they did last season. Probably that midfield has something to do with it.

Kept this on laptop on repeat.

Time to put some respect on Gary Neville’s time at Valencia…

I see there are reports of Mainoo looking to leave ManU. Perhaps he was not quite the player the likes of Goldbridge were lauding him as? However, I think he is smart to look for the exit at this stage of his career. Best case he was headed toward being another Rashford, and the fact that he is not getting playing time suggests best case wasn’t happening anyway.

ManU is a genuinely terrible place for a talented young player to develop.

This was my Sesko argument.

As much as they’re both a bunch of cunts, given the current state of affairs and from a purely footballing POV, where would you want to spend your early-20s??

Manchester or Newcastle?

I mentioned it in the who would you buy thread. He is a victim of Amorimball. Not really because his strengths dont fit any of the roles there in the side, because he absolutely could. He is probably best as an orthodox 8, but he is absolutely fine sitting a bit deeper as his strengths are going looking for the ball, getting it to his feet and making a pass. His issue is more that Amorim’s side’s failures leave him scratching for explanations and one he has landed is that “this hyped kid doesnt know how to play my football.”

His best path back into the the side is for Amorim to be sacked. But I think Utd are red pilled at this point. They have made too many changes over the years and what they need to do is back the guy through the difficult periods. That means that it will be January, Utd will be struggling and needing one more player to unlock the mythical Amorimball and needing to raise funds to bring them in. Mainoo will want out having got 0 minutes and seeing his world cup opportunity rapidly go by him. We then swoop in with a 30 million quid offer and watch their heads explode knowing they have to serious consider it.

Manchester for most footballers evidently because they pay you well and they don’t kick up a big fuss like Newcastle do when you attempt to leave the club.

They were quoting 70m when they were touting his availability earlier this year. Apparently they’d settle for 40m now but still no takers. I know it’d never happen but I’d like him here at that price.
