There has long been an idea that when any named Israeli raises any extremist idea it is rejected as the rantings of a fringe person who does not represent Israel or what ti stands for. We have to got to the point where for that to hold weâre having to reject majority opinion and a significant breadth of the government and leaders of multiple senior parties as being things that dont represent Israel. So you cannot conflate israel and judiasm because that is antisemitic. Right, that is understood. Not all jews and no dual loyalty tropes. But now you also cannot separate judiasm from the country of israel because that is also antisemitc.
This is such dangerous ground to approach, but it feels like the way western jews who cannot break from Israel over the conduct of the country are themselves collapsing the two types of criticism of Israel into the same argument in incredibly dangerous ways.
I havenât been following , but at a guess Iâd say that El-Sayed probably hasnât said what Frum accuses him of here. What Frum does appear to be saying however is that thou shall not criticise Israel ever , regardless of the collapse in its support in America , the reason for that collapse , and its political liability.
I just read his bio. Weirdly enough it contained a line saying that he considers himself âa not especially observant Jewâ, which is ironic, because âFrumâ is Yiddish for a very religious person.

We are in a cycle now of people a priori deemed antisemitic (mainly because they have roots in a muslim country) can say things that white people are allowed to say but when they do it is called antisemitic. What are they referring to here is Piker rejecting that the alleged sex crimes committed in the Oct 7th attack were a justification for what Israel subsequently started doing. Itâs a totally mainstream point (war crimes cannot be used as justification for retaliatory war crimes) and a completely different point than the one that has now wormed its way into public consciousness.
