New reporting today from Haaretz that Netanyahu was personally warned about the Oct 7 attack by the Emir of UAE , information that came directly from Sinwar.
Conversely , Sara Netanyahu has been promoting a conspiracy theory that the Left’s main candidate , Yair Golan , was in fact the one who was warned and there was a deep state plot to keep it from Bibi.
I know which version I would be more inclined to believe , but we’re probably in for a very ruthless and dangerous election campaign.

Apparently, Netanyahu is now suing Haaretz over this, but they are standing by their story. Presumably they have the receipts.
It always surprised me that the Israeli forces were caught sleeping on what was the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War.

I read a long and detailed article, around two years ago, in a Dutch paper, with a lot of direct testimonials from people living in kibbutzim in the vicinity of Gaza (with among others, important political opponents against Netanyahou living there). They told the reporters how they were completely let down by Tsahal after the initial attack. Neither the army nor any kind of police force arrived in most of the villages before around seven long hours. For several villages, Tsahal did take even longer, up until three days (ie. Kfar Aza). Meanwhile, a good part of people living in these villages were slaughtered.
In such a tiny country, with such a big, well-organized, battle-hardened army and such a strong secret service at disposal, such a long time to react looked suspicious to me at the time. So, I’ll not be surprised if this story proves to be true.

The fortress was quite, quite likely destroyed. A 4.1 earthquake was detected, and as you can see from the very spectacular video, whatever bunkers and tunnels were there are probably no longer operational. Iran claimed the destruction of this hezbollah fortress would be a “red line”, but I have doubts.
But essentially, these people are now likely dead:

Iran has better luck in Yemen, where Ansar Allah is making a mockery of the government’s saudi backed offensive, captured Mockha in just 90 hours, bombing KSA pipeline (that will hurt you and me mostly, look at petrol prices in coming days), Aramco facility and essentialy battering KSA economy.

Interesting discussion going on right now in Canada between the Federal government, and the provincial governments of BC, Ontario, and Quebec. Those provinces are discussing levying export duties on electricity - the most radical effect would be in the Northeast, because Hydro Quebec essentially sets the market floor for NEISO and NYISO. That in turn would definitely hit PJM. The Federal government doesn’t want to see any unnecessary escalation of the dispute.

Anyway, one of the infuriating things about the early stages of Israel’s response to the October 2023 attack was how few people newly paying attention were unfamiliar with the long standing and well documented conscious strategy of the IDF covering their indiscriminate or sometimes even targeted killings of non-combatants by simply lying about it and playing on the “you’d have to be a monster to do that” idea.
“Israel definitely didnt blow up that hospital, and if they did it definitely wouldn’t have been on purpose…” said the people very confidently with seemingly no appreciation for how the IDF had long operated.
But we are now getting stuff like this come out on an almost weekly basis

There is a certain gruesome arithmetic in the international law that covers the use of force around civilians. The presence of one civilian among 500 combatants, for example, does not mean that a strike would be considered a war crime. As the ratio shifts, one finds oneself in the ugly math of deciding just how many civilians are allowed to be killed to achieve the destruction of a target of military value. That NAZA term both dehumanises to allow and reflects the discipline of making that assessment - but at the point where 500 are allowed for a single combatant, the discipline is just pantomime.
