This is probably the only thing that the west can do to reign in the mad president of Israel

Well, it has been about a decade and counting for the Uyhgur, and still not much.

153 countries in the GA vote to call for a ceasefire - although that is only 13 more than on October 27.

Had a grim laugh over the World Bank report issued today on the economy of Gaza. Apparently, they think economic activity has plummeted to a near standstill. Hmm, you think?

:man_facepalming:

33 additional countries voted for a ceasefire. But any UNGA vote is pointless in any case.

Countries are free to demand a ceasefire. They all know that US will veto.

The UN especially the security council are ineffectual bodies

Wasn’t it 140 on October 27?

By contrast, the previous UN resolution calling for a “humanitarian truce” on 27 October attracted 120 votes in favor, 14 against, with 45 abstentions.

I must have garbled the ‘absents’ from that vote.

think we all know the globalist elites are just having their way with society these days. Money talks.

It’s the neoliberal agenda in action.

care to extrapolate on that?

To summarise: since Reagan and Thatcher came to power, the entire political landscape has been controlled by the right, funded by billionaires. The public are supposed to drift money- so those with more wealth are “good” and “deserving” and those without “bad” and “lazy”- while also vilifying taxation.

The aim is for wealth to be all that matters and for those with it to control not just the political agenda but the everyday lives of the masses.

That’s just a very basic summary; look up neoliberalism online for more detail.

and yet when the right cry foul and preach anti-establishment they are vilified by the left. police are armed to the teeth to deter any uprisings by the people against the government and their ways of pillaging the public coffers and with legislating privacy invasion with laws such as the Patriot Act it would be nearly impossible to organize any kind of protests without the government knowing and intervening

something like that?

See, it’s almost as though people on the right and on the left can actually share many values, who knew???

Neoliberalism emphasises personal greed over collective solidarity. It appeals to individuals’ desires for material wealth and emphasises policies such as tax cuts over public services. These policies benefit the rich more than the poor, but are appealing to a large proportion of the public by dangling the carrot of prosperity while continuing to funnel wealth upwards.
This creates inequality which creates frustration and anger. In order to contain this anger, issues are manufactured to divert attention, the classics being immigrants and law and order. Recently “wokeness” has been built into a huge threat to society and outrage has been stoked by politicians in order to gain political advantage, thus distracting and diverting people from the real causes of their dissatisfaction.

my question would be, if this neoliberalism is coming out of the right as above (Reagan, Thatcher) wouldn’t that be neoconservatism? “Controlled by the right” ?
