I not just respect, but kind of envy, people like you. You live so far from the troubled spots and, presumably, have no personal or cultural connection with those people. You live in a place that even has remarkably less abuse than, say, Bangladesh. Yet, you have the empathy. Bless you.

I don’t think that is much of a consideration. Nobody actually wants the Gaza strip now, it is a millstone. Israel is simply observing a formality that any honest military man knows cannot actually be complied with anyway. Moving ~ 1 million people around 20 km in 24 hours is a logistical nightmare, an impossibility when there are no remaining communications or transport. Double that impossibility if Hamas (as local authority) is actually opposing the idea.

Here in France , at a school in Arras , a teacher was murdered this morning with a knife , and two others gravely injured , by some fuckwit who was shouting Allah Akhbar.
President Macron addressed the nation last night to call for calm amidst rising tensions after the recent events in Israel and in anticipation of what’s about to happen in Gaza.
This follows a meeting yesterday with the leaders of France’s various political parties, as well as the presidents of the Assemblée Nationale and the Sénat in a call for national unity.
Pro - Palestinian demonstrations had already been banned by Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin who said his ministry has recorded more than 100 anti-Semitic acts in France since Saturday, and spoke of an “jihad atmosphere,” warning: “There are Hamas political proxies in France.”
Proof , if any was needed , that what happens in Israel/Palestine can have repercussions for us all.
These are dark days indeed.

I think that is a minor consideration at best. The deposits off Egypt are significant, uncontested, and are only just beginning to be tapped. The energy reserves add some value, but don’t alter the basic dynamic.

No matter how small, any oil/gas reserve is precious for Israel. The land itself is lucrative too. It’s not just suitable for building settlements It’s arable too.
Just shows how brutal Israeli attack will be. There was a way to get Ukranian out (quite a lot of them atleast) , Gaza is a prison with no way out.

Steven Rosenberg , the BBC’s Moscow correspondent did a trawl through the Russian newspapers yesterday. They are besides themselves with joy at the recent events , and are already suggesting Putin could reprise the peacemaker role that he usurped in Syria.

The natural gas to the shores of Gaza is small, nothing significant. Israel has big reserves in the north it exports to Egypt.
Egypt will not let the Gazans enter - so I assure you, Israel will not take Gaza, why would Israel want 2 million people who showed on Saturday they are like nazis/isis ? burn babies and rape women …
