He may not have been, but by Monday he will have been. He is now an awkward loose end.
I get what you mean. Time will tell. I am less interested in Assad the person, than what happens now. Assad with no legitimacy, loathed by absolutely everyone and disrespected by former allies; his fate isnāt truly important. But yes, ideally, many of his former allies would probably like him better dead than not. You canāt use him politically if you give him amnesty.
But what comes now is. I hope Syria will not be partitioned, so I hope dicipline reigns.
This tweet is probably not needed, but the general staff of the Syrian Arab Army announced that Assadās rule was ended.

Israeli forces have entered Quneitra governate from the Golan under cover of artillery fire, attacking militants and expanding a buffer zone. I reported preparations for this above, so not a surprise to me.
Now the films and pictures from Sednaya will begin and it will be heinous once again. I will never forget the Ceasar files, when I saw them so many years ago.

There is a perversity about how determined some of these critics of things Western are to deny any agency whatsoever to any non-Western actor. What has happened in the past week has caught Russia and the US alike badly offguard. I desperately hope HTS will put in place governance that could possibly be mistaken for a US puppet regime. They have a worrying pedigree.
Extremely perverse and I find it so exhausting to explain to people again and again, that literally all the ammunition and weapons the rebels have, are looted from the syrian army, with only some from foreign backers.
Itās exhausting, because itās a never ending circle where people donāt listen or bother to read the long fucking list of captured equippment you post.
Itās like Syrians donāt have agency or are completely incapable even after more than a decade of war.
The West have literally almost nothing to do with this, support to rebels stopped long ago, but itās always the dark conspiratorical shadow of some spooky western empire that funnels weapons according to these people, despite the absurdity and imposibility regarding the logistics of such an operation happening in the dark. Itās CIA payroll and kleptocratic gulf states operating on behalf of the western empire. The same fucking trope, every year, every day, with no evidence but feelings. Itās simply exhausting.
Itās not strange that Syrians hate that discourse with a passion. Here they have accomlished an epic deed, but no, itās not them, it is NATO or the gulf arabs or what not.
When itās literally Syrians exploiting power vacuums from Ukraine , Gaza-fallout and Lebanon.
He did realise that since itās emergency aid in the here and now, heās appealing to the wrong guy, right?
This was published at 1747Z yesterday, and already feels like months out of dateā¦
Iām afraid that not much has changed in Syria. Thereās a new ruler in Damascus, but the multitude of groups with conflicting interest remains. Not to mention Israel and its Western patrons would prefer to keep Syria fragmented and unstable.
Yes, because said Western patrons simply love the idea of millions of refugees coming to their shoresā¦
āAssad is gone,ā Trump said on his Truth Social platform. āHis protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer.ā
Hmm, and what happens when they pull the plug on you Donny?
I doubt that. Theyād prefer Syria stable and compliant. Thatās not on the horizon though.
Yeah, who in the west would want Syria remaining in a state of war? Literally nobody, the war in Syria has brought nothing but problems, at least for Europe.
In my book, Assadās demise is excellent news. With a hindsight of more than fifty years, nobody can say that it would be good for this murderous regime to stay in power. They have brought nothing but suffering to the Syrian people, and because of them, the country is now in a pitiful state of chaos and poverty.
Assad has been removed by Syrians who played their hand very smartly. Hopefully, they will now be able to find an agreement to live together without further bloodshed. After such a long time, everyone must be fed up with it, so who knows.
As for the West, it should not interfere. Let them settle themselves, help them if they ask for it, but nothing more. Russia are grilled anyway, they are finished in this region, and I find it very satisfactory to see them lose their dirty game there.
The fucking interference in things we donāt understand should stop. Let them decide whatās best for themselves, and if they ask for it, help them build a stable country, which is the most important thing now.
Those who benefit financially from it, without having to suffer any of the negative consequences, such as the arms trade and its lackeys in politics and the media.
If only, but one can hope. Putin will prop his puppet up, until Father Time has his way.
