You know it’s bad when even the BBC is moved. I was watching some of the WWII documentaries. The kids in Gaza are looking like the emancipated kids from the concentration camps. The Nazis termed their Jewish population (and others) as “life undeserving of life”. That is exactly how Israel is treating the Palestinians.

Who gets to control the captagon trade post-Assad ? Before his ouster Syria was widely regarded as a narco state. Will the Saudis stamp on that or is there just too much money involved for it to be eradicated ?

Millions were destroyed in the take over and factories dismantled, but it’s cheap stuff, so easy to bring back production.

Answer: I don’t know

I don’t think threadreaderapp works when it is set to private, such as in this case.
But it’s an interesting thread on variables and potential consequences:

Too true, and this statement has for decades brought great irritation to me, as it is nonsense in 90 percent of cases and mostly parroted by politicians in Europe as a default position; but seldom based on facts:

Amazing that Trump may actually be doing the uncomfortable but right thing by Syria, and in turn getting much needed distance from Israel, and doing it all by accident, being driven by a petty bitch personal grudge towards Bibi for him saying Biden won the 2020 election

I guess my ironic prediction of a Nobel Peace Prize might not actually be too far away

He won’t get it

But he is likely to be nominated (but all sort of people are).

Henry Kissinger :man_shrugging:

A different time.
You must realise, the Vietnam War was truly unpopular, particularly close to the end of it. It was widely seen as not particularly just. When Kissenger negotiated a Ceasefire with LĂȘ Đức Thọ, it was viewed as the beginning of the end of that awful conflict where several millions died.
That was why Kissenger and LĂȘ Đức Thọ shared the price back then in 1973.

But it’s not 1973 now.

Not at all. Nobel Peace Prizes tend to be given on the basis of things people have actually worked towards, while what’s happening here is that the advancements towards peace have all come as a complete byproduct of his idiocy rather than things he’s actually intended. Look at the cooperation between China, South Korea, and Japan, or the steps the EU is taking towards uniting for the defence of Ukraine. Even in the case of Palestine, whatever’s rumoured is simply because he wants to look good and/or because he was told he’s being played by Netanyahu.

The intensity grows and grows. Yesterday, 80 people were killed, last night 103. And this is only the beginning, according to the Übercunt in charge of this genocide.

Just imagine the reaction if we were getting these daily death tolls in Israel.

I think we all know by now that what “Israel says” is 99.9% bollocks.
