The Middle East Thread

I mean there is zero logical reason for an asylum seeker to do this, let alone a Muslim one, let alone on anybody Jewish.
And of course now all Muslims are branded the same again (terrorists). Conveniently forgetting the fact that religion is a happenstance in this situation, not the cause. Nobody in MSM talks about the Palestinian Christians, for example.
The cynic in me thinks that this is just perfectly timed to distract from the increasing pressure that Israel is being put under to cease its atrocities. And it worked like a charm.

Did you actually watch the video clip I posted ? The man was an obvious idiot doing idiot things.
Please check sources properly before resorting to less logical conspiracy theories.

You talk of logic as if angry emotional people (many of whom are idiots) are logical. They are not. Again, it is absurd that there have been so few of these attacks, given how many such people are triggered by Israeli war crimes (they number in the thousands, many of whom are NOT stable people).

The worst I see, are good people resorting to knee jerk conspiracy theories when there is another incredibly obvious answer that is much more likely. I just cannot stand it and I don’t understand how you think. The answer is obvious. The likelyhood that it is a conspiracy is unfathomably minisucle. The cynic inside of you is a fool.

Only one person knows the motive: the perpetrator.

Everyone else is just guessing.

Yeah. But we are talking about likelyhood of X. One is not the same as the other and this is a hill I will die on any day of the year.
Again, it is beyond foolish to resort to conspiracy theories when it is obviously far less likely than other answers. It is in my view indefencible intellectually.

Oh, I agree with you that the likelihood is small. But that doesn’t mean that it is impossible.

It is extremely difficult. The operational difficulties alone vast. To even think of the idea is stupid.
But sure, not technically impossible. But this is not the sort of op you plan for months and burn assets doing when the political gain is less than obvious.

To me it is inconceavable that there are people that imediately jump to conspiratorical conclusions when there are so many people in the US who thinks this is a jolly good idea as an act of recistance for Palestine. Why the hell jump to the least logical conclusion ? Makes 0.0 sense.

Anyway, I am off. I always get disappointed when I see something like this. It is as if you cannot possible believe what is front of your eyes with so much data available, so must reach for something else that is far less likely because it emotionally suits your world view better. I shall never understand.

I doubt even the perpetrator knows as he’s a fuckwit. As is everyone.

I said ā€œthe cynic in meā€

I didn’t say I firmly believe he was paid to do this or some such thing.

Why are you getting so worked up about this?

I’m not saying this is a false flag operation but such things have happened many times in history.

ā€œIdiot doing idiot thingsā€ is someone getting drunk and climbing over a zoo fence to fight a gorilla.

This guy practically threw his life away for nothing. Not even a drunk idiot would do that.

@Magnus also nothing personal mate. We’re just discussing stuff here. I definitely value your opinion

Sorry, I get riled up by conspiracy theories when there is a far more likely logical reason that is way less complex.

It is not at all personal and certainly not about your person; i want to stress.

I just think one should be cautious to reach for complex theories when the likelyhood is so low and in particular when dealing with the Middle East. Because the Middle East has a massive cultural problem with conspiracy theories on both street level but also inside academia. It is a very real cultural problem that truly plagues them (the reasons behind that are historical and complex in terms of both sociopolitics and socioeconomics as well as authoriatarianism and an enemy in Israel; and also a relic of colonialism and more) and then it doesn’t help when westerners add fuel to that particular fire.
Traditionally, authoritarian regimes in the Middle East have encouraged (and leaked) a variety of conspiracy theories among their populace , as a way to derail criticism of own rule and focus anger on external shadow actors.

Anyway, this is fresh story and rather important:

Do you think there is any possible chance that Israel would still attack the nuclear facilities in the light of such a deal , and despite being warned off by the Americans ?

Yes.
Maybe not as high as 50%, but that Iran gets to continue enrichment is not what Israel had foreseen, since the US had been so adamant that this was a red line.
It depends on various other factors though. Too early to say. Also, remember, there is no deal yet (and this one looks suspiciously like JPOA, which Trump destroyed).

As I said, but better to get it from some of the true experts on the subject

Trump denies this now in a rambling tweet. But he wants a deal, so…

I do think this happens to be true. Middle East and also the extension of (with Pakistan/Turkey as well). Hesitate to say Islamic countries as such but it definitely starts from that

And yet again:

Imagine being there, in this post-acopalyptic decorum: starving, thirsty, ill, hounded around right and left since months, with the constant threat of a missile coming down at any given time, looking out for food, and then being aimed at and shot by soldiers. For nothing.

The activists knows this. It is half the point with the flotilla. To get sabotaged and stopped. Perhaps there are a few utterly naive individuals among them, but logic and history dictates that they will be stopped. But doing so, the activists will get interntional news spot light for 2-3 days, which is a positive. It is why they do it in the first place after all. It’s not as if there is much cargo in the ship.

Israel initially considered allowing the boat Madelein, carrying Greta Thunberg and other activists, to dock in Gaza but ultimately rejected the move to avoid setting a precedent, Kan News reported. Defense Minister Katz is expected to meet with senior IDF officials to determine whether to leave the vessel at sea or escort it to the port of Ashdod and arrest those on board.

Well, that will surely better the living conditions of the civil population. Not only being starved, receiving Israeli missiles on their head and being shot at by Israeli soldiers, but also now get into the crossfire of a civil war between several armed factions. :see_no_evil_monkey:

Imo, this is once again a clear indication that this Israel government wants as much dead Gazans as possible. They could really recoin the phrase ā€˜Only a dead Indian is a good Indian’, by replacing the word Indian with Gazan.
