@koptician, I don’t think that your source is sound, mate. I went on the website of Harvard to verify this, and unless I’ve missed something, their latest report on the humanitarian situation in Gaza dates back to February 2024!
The mentioned figures could be accurate, or not at all. I don’t think that anyone exactly knows how many people have died, it’s all guesswork at this stage of the genocide.
So, yet another point-blank shooting with dozens of deaths. It’s terrible and happens on a daily basis now. But the worst isn’t this. The worst can be found on the faces of these Palestinians:
That is normal though and would be the same here in Europe if we were at war.
It takes hours before media is allowed to film sensitive sites during wars, as there is a military censor. You don’t show the enemy the damage from sensitive sites intiially as you then give them free Battle Damage Assessment. Civilian sites have no such value. It just means that it takes a few extra hours. But it’s not as if you can hide a BM impacting on video and most hits are shown on live stream. Then after, they are geolocated within an hour. DW and other media, knows far more about targets being struck than you may assume, but they work under a military censor like everyone else so must wait until ISR officially releases such information.
In reality you are getting far better and far faster information than 50 years ago. 50 years ago, it was even possible to hide that you had been bombed. Today it is not.
Honestly, it looks like fabricated propaganda and not like a Harvard study. Those numbers are much, much too high and the language that is used in your post is propagandistic, which is usually a give away that it is not a report released by a serious actor. Why for instance, do you think that Harvard University would use that kind of unserious emotionaly laden language ? It makes no sense. And why would they have been told these numbers by “reports” from the israeli army in the first place ? It is fairly gross propaganda.
In general, when such “news” comes from memes, please do ignore. They should have provided a link, but they did not do so for a reason.
Yes, it is probably bullshit. Whole universities don’t publish reports, individual professors do - and there is no particular reason why they would have more accurate or up-to-date information. Best case, an academic might apply some more rigorous methodology to existing numbers, and make fairly guarded statements.
This one is genuinely bewildering. Tanks opening fire with their main guns at a crowd just makes no sense from just about any perspective. There isn’t even plausible deniability, the way there is in any small arms fire incident (panic, confusion, etc.) Firing an HE round means there was a significant distance between the crowds and the tanks, and it was not an individual reaction. An order to do it was given, at the very least by the tank commander.
I’m genuinely concerned about how these soldiers would act when there’s a ceasefire, or when they are among their own communities. There’s been so many indiscretions by IDF soldiers/units, and they pose a very real threat to public safety.
It’s times like these that I would have wished that we communicated verbally and not in written form.
All the best to you. God knows you have good reason to be frustrated.
Please note his last point. The current war/wars have no ethical ideological goal (I mean, I loathed neocons, but at least they believed they were doing good) and there is no design for an “Iran after”. Perhaps this latter point is the real ethical conundrum.
It’s always the case. First, they drove Saddam out of Kuwait and flattened half of Iraq, leaving the Iraqis to deal with the retaliation of Saddam. Then they exterminated Saddam, and destroyed the entire civil system, leaving the Iraqis to deal with a plethora militias squabbling for a piece. They are raging Gaza for nearly two years without any plan for an alternative administration. They exterminated Gaddafi, and destroyed the entire civil system, leaving the Libyans to deal with a plethora militias squabbling for a piece. They funded a plethora of militias without the plan for an alternative administration, leaving the Syrians at the mercy of the thugs (and Assad).
