Just as Hamas slaughtering innocent civilians is a war crime, indiscriminate bombing is a war crime.
Collective punishment is also considered a war crime under the Genova convention. A blockade (land, sea.air) coupled with depriving water is collective punishment. You are also not allowed to starve am enemy, let alone a entire population. That goes against international law. Water is specifically mentioned.
Blockquote
The Geneva Convention’s 1977 additional protocols prohibit the use of starvation as a weapon of war. It is forbidden to “attack, destroy, remove or render useless . . . objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population”. These include “foodstuffs . . . drinking water installations and supplies and irrigation works”.
The Rome statute that underpins the Netherlands-based International Criminal Court echoes this language. It proscribes “intentionally using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare by depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival”. That includes “wilfully impeding relief supplies as provided for under the Geneva Conventions”.
This is not true - going back to the Disengagement in 2005 the responsiblity over Gaza was transferred to the Palastinian Authority. In 2007 they held an election and Hamas was elected - then the PA effectivity lost control.
And Hamas as the ruling entity is responsible for supplying food, water etc. not Israel.
If you have kids - imagine that ISIS came to your home on Sunday, killing your spouse and kidnap the kids.
you will support your country giving them water? no way
(sorry for this analogy)
That what happened to thousands of families, even the most outspoken peace acitivists in Israel now call to do whatever it takes to revenge and finish Hamas.
How does Hamas supply food , water etc. when it does not control its own borders ?
I’m afraid your refusal to even acknowledge that the territory has been in a state of siege for 16 yrs doesn’t afford you much credibility when you opine on the situation.
You also say you didn’t vote for Netanyahu last time , and you don’t strike me as much of a leftist , so may I ask who you did vote for ?
I just saw an interview with a guy in Gaza who was lucky enough to have his own generator and fuel. He said that people were too afraid to leave and move south because it was so dangerous.
He also said he had a friend in Khan Younis (in the south) who was hosting six families of refugees. The house next door had just been destroyed by an Israeli bomb and they were pulling out the bodies.
There is nowhere to be ‘safe’ in Gaza. The best he can do is stay put … and pray.
The double standards at play are absolutely shocking. Hamas are, rightly, labelled barbaric for targeting civilians, but nothing is said when the Israeli government does the same thing.
Obviously, safe zone would not be remotely accurate, exclusion zone works I guess. As of a minute ago, Israel’s edict says that northern ~1/3rd or so is a free fire zone. The area around Khan Younis is supposed to be operating under different rules, evidently of limited value given the incident noted above.
