The Middle East Thread

This is about this one incident. There’s seemingly good evidence showing that this was likely a missile launch gone wrong.

As much as I loathe what the Israeli establishment is doing, If the Hamas or any other groups are launching attacks with missiles , the misfires often have serious consequences too as we see in this situation.

There’s plenty about this war that needs justifiable anger against Israel without getting this one incident being chalked against them.

I’ll call out excesses as I see it. This whole conflict has been nothing more than two sides trying to one up each other to see who’s more stupid while the innocents pay the price.

IDF ‘evidence’? They denied bombing civilians, using white phosphorus etc in last Gaza attack

Or you mean geoconfirmed. Does anyone actually know who they are?

Own goal would imply they gave a shit about the lives of civilians, Palestinians or otherwise.

If you’ve read their articles , they do provide good analysis on the ukraine Russia war as well.

Looking at the bigger picture here:

Meanwhile, Bibi with loads of propaganda as he makes a live speech alongside Biden.

“Hamas are the new Nazis”. Errr…

Good article. Well intentioned. But it’s not going to be heeded.

I haven’t. Very little information about them, for people to be quoting as objective. Seem to be owned by Bellingcat?

So much for the supposed moderating influence of Biden…

Hence why I think rushing to a conclusion is a bad idea.

Some positivity for me at least. The article quotes an opinion poll which suggests that Likud would lose a third of their seats if an election would be called tomorrow, with those seats likely going to Gantz’s party.

There is also a balance of probabilities. To believe that it was a Hamas missile you need to believe Hamas has missiles orders of magnitude bigger, than it has chosen to fire. This seems unlikely. It would be astronomically unlucky, that the first time they do fire such a weapon, of all places it hits a hospital.

On the other hand, Israel told 25 hospitals in Gaza to evacuate. They have been firing weapons of that scale at other buildings. Smaller missiles have hit other hospitals. There are videos such as the one above I posted where foreign minister was arguing that hospitals are valid targets.

If you ignore all the propaganda on both sides, it seems highly likely the hospital was a target.

It seems likely, but the level of condemnation, especially within this thread, makes it seem like there’s very little certainty one way or another.

Well. Biden seems to believe that this was an attack “from the other side”

He’s hardly going to admit anything else being the case though.

So do normal people trust him and what he says ?

It is as I said. People will believe what they want to believe in order to frame that into their preconceived notions. Point out videos and it’s, ‘yes but someone said this’, add more context it’s ‘yes, but two years ago they did that’

Last week an Israelite hospital was hit, not so? Women and children murdered and brutalized and we found the argument being, ‘oh but they weren’t beheaded’ and ‘where’s the evidence’. Seems like whenever there is an instance of atrocity against Israelis it’s demurred with the implied ‘well they deserved it’, a demand for evidence or just no mention. On the other hand, every Israeli action is mentioned and decried avidly without any scrutiny whatsoever.

Just in the past week:

  1. A blatant car bomb on a highway being used by refugees and not an IDF strike. Barely a mention on here.

  2. Hamas setting up roadblocks stopping people from leaving. Barely a mention on here.

  3. Hamas outed as looting the water infrastructure to make rockets. Barely a mention on here.

There is an unmistakable one sided nature to this thread by the majority of posters and any evidence to the contrary is simply ignored or questioned as propaganda.

That seems a bit steep - has the IDF been accused of rape now too? I suppose they are going for the war crimes trifecta
