Noa Mariciano was described as a fallen soldier. No cause of death is given, but the IDF says her family has been notified.
As we reported last night, a video was shared widely online in which Marciano identifies herself and says she had been held for four days. The footage then cuts to graphic images which appear to show the body of a young woman.
There is the normal assumption - as with all hostage videos - that the words are not her own.
Hamas claimed that Mariciano was killed in an Israeli air strike.
The highlighted part seems a bit bizarre. Was she a soldier?
This is excellent news. Tony is just the statesman to sort this out.
Here’s a plane ticket to Jerusalem, and from there I’m sure you can reach Gaza, where I’m sure Hamas would be delighted to see you. You have so many friends in The Middle East I’m sure you won’t find accommodation and transport difficult to arrange.
I know there isn’t a return ticket, don’t worry about it. We’ll sort that later.
If you read the reports it’s a direct contact from Bibi. Not for any peace building but to operate from his existing office in Israel to help them whitewash their genocide in the Western media. He’s had plenty of experience with that so maybe a logical appointment
It is important to understand that this is not remotely close to a new position. He is the chair of the RZP, and it (along with predecessor versions) has never accepted the existence of Gaza as an independent entity, nor the idea of such an entity in the West Bank.
It’s mad to me that officials of a terrorist organisation suffer sanctions instead of arrest.
I mean, a travel ban? Wtf is a travel ban? Are you telling me a member of an officially recognised terrorist organisation was previously allowed to travel around Britain as he pleased?
I think Ezra Klein has been really good over this. He’s a Liberal New York Jew and and naturally fills that position you know exists but don’t hear much of - conceptually pro-Israel, but practically opposed to the way it conducts itself.
I posted his initial comments several weeks ago, but in the weeks since he’s hosted a really good series of conversations
His first two were very much focused on his perspective:
There was one fantastic one with a Palestine political scientists about her work trying to understand the view of the Palestinian people and the nuance required to understand the huge variability you get in polling results - She Polled Gazans on Oct. 6. H… - The Ezra Klein Show - Apple Podcasts
Then most recently he did a sort of point-counterpoint:
