I don’t think there’s a band that I like that has a big discography where I like them all.
Classic example…Manic St Preachers - Love the first three albums (third one released in 94)…then don’t like anything until Send Away The Tigers in 2007 and haven’t liked anything since.

Megadeth… Yes , anthrax for quite a bit yes , testament … Yes , pantera … Yes , metallica for the most relevant part yes…
And again other bands there machinehead , and the other derivatives.
But just can’t get myself to ever like slayer. The guitaring was way too damn lazy.
Except hanneman’s drumming, I really don’t see anything great there.
I was going to suggest that they are a decent riffing band, but it is largely down to the drums, isn’t it? I suppose “South Of Heaven” worked quite nicely on its own.

Both the bands took the worst elements from bands like maiden and priest and took them down further.

For me. Pantera , even if people don’t classify it as thrash , was something that I adored… Even before the retard went and killed dimebag.
Double bass drums with the bass guitar largely following the drummer. Very lazy musical output and terrible production

Not sure if you lot would have heard watch tower. But that was a killer band too.
Manowar always amuse me because of the unintentional homoeroticism. The music is complete dreck, but they probably took their image from Judas Priest as well, without realising that with Halford it was completely intentional homoeroticism.

Eric adams is a good singer. But so were the singers for blind guardian , helloween z, ed guy , and all those other power metal bands.
Remove the shock value and there’s nothing manowar really brought to the table.
Loudest gigs I ever went to - Saw them in 94 and 97 in Brixton Academy.

Nirvana isn’t about how easy to play the guitar parts are. The dude had a knack for coming up with seemingly really simple/catchy but often quite intricate and unconventional vocal melodies over all the power chord stuff. And had a unique, expressive vocal style. Try writing a song as good as e.g. Heart shaped box and come back to me

I’m not a die-hard fan of Slayer, far from it, due to many reasons, but I appreciate their first five albums very much. What they did with them was breaking new ground in terms of speed, aggression and darkness, that stuff was instrumental in creating whole new subgenres of metal.
Funny you mention Manowar - I also think they are a better band than they seem. They always had amazing instrumentalists, their singer was insane, song structures, arrangements - I don’t think that any metal band sounded as grandiose as them when they turned it on. Their overly macho image and certain lyrical content sucked, though, that ultimately put me off.

Also, gotta Something in the Way in this regard - it was the peak of their writing for me, though Cobain was probably rock-bottom when he wrote it… I think it’s the kind of song that people will listen to in a hundred years and wonder how it’s possible to write something that is so simple on the face of it but so gloomy, profound and catchy at the same time.
