This was exactly my experience of McCartney as a kid as someone who was in primary school in the 80s. I was mortified when some years later I connected all the dots and came to understand that the guy who did the Frog Chorus was the famous for having been in the most important band of all time that I loved.

I think in retrospect it’s just a really important lesson that people can become genuinely different people at different stages in their life (very often because of a woman). Because his music in lots of the wings era was abominable, but he was doing what satisfied him at that stage in his life. Yet this, from his first post-Beatles release, is as unrecognizable from his Beatles work as Mull of Kintyre was but in a completely different and enjoyable way

Incidentally he supposedly played every instrument when recording that.

I actually dont know 8 or 9 but stopped caring when I realized the caliber of some of the bands that I already figured out.

Genuinely one of the worst things about moving to America when I did was the insistence from just about every American i met that they know good british music and then putting on Bush

I couldn’t get 1 and 9.

Counting Crows and Black Grape.

I would be absolutely stunned that such an American focused MTV driven list would include Black Grape

What’s it meant to be?

I assume the Cranberries.

You’ could have surveyed 1 million American college kids of the time and not found one who knew of Black Grape (or the Happy Mondays).

I thought 9 was The Cranberries

Counting Crows aren’t a band that I would associate with grunge, alternative rock or mainstream popularity - that said, I’m actually not sure that I know even a single song of theirs. :face_without_mouth:

The Cranberries apparently
