I was 12 and very naive when Kurt passed. I was also the oldest child and so sheltered in my exposure to music, other than the local radio stations playing popular music. I recall teasing a girl in my class who was upset at the news and whose brothers had tickets for Reading that year.
30+ years later, that day still plays on my mind. Firstly because of the guilt/shame of knowing I was nasty to someone purely on the basis of me being an idiot, and secondly because Nirvana (alongside Carter USM) have been my go to music, whenever, iv needed a bit of escapism.
My mate used to do the catering for Motörhead, Every tour Europe/America without fail. Lemmy even referenced one of the Chef’s in a live TV interview - I think he was known as fat Steve. Apart from general catering, my mates more important roles was to ensure there was ample lines of Base racked up for the band during their gigs and Whiskey by the bottle.
Thank you…yesterday was my last official day I could work…so now I’m an OAP…but alas no rest for the wicked…hoovering, washing out, buffet to start…then bit of a sit down…
I always thought it was Dave finding his feet and mimicking it. The Foo Fighters was always more of a pop sensibility. Nirvana only really embraced that on Nevermind.
I’ve been watching old music TV hits on German telly. Cindy und Bert came on, who were popular Schlager (easy listening) singers in the 1970s. They were even in Eurovision one year. This was an early single for them, where I can only assume that an A&R man got his genres crossed. I rather like it.
