The Music Thread

Went to Barrowland with my lad last month to see Stiff Little Fingers.
It was an amazing night, just as good as when I saw them 47 years ago
Support act was a 2 piece from Colchester called The Meffs, they were very good

The was a great gig, in the sky.

I know i am a few decades late, but I just discovered this song from this band. I haveheard of the band but i thought they were country music kind of band so I never bothered to look into it.

This is an awesome song!

Creedence Clearwater Revival are great. I’ve always credited them as a blues-rock band, but really just great songwriters. John Fogerty’s solo stuff is good as well, but possibly more famous through cover versions, for example “Rockin All Over The World” which is better known as a Status Quo track.

Both you and @Maria are correct, they are listed as blues/county/swamp/roots rock.

Awesome band, such natural honest song power.

thanks @RedWhippet @Bekloppt and @Barnestormer for the music education

The Fortunate Son track is a great road trip song. I do love this kind of blues-rock genre. It is abit like Steppenwolf. I would play it on the wedding song list too.

I wish i discovered them earlier. I am going to find that ‘Rockin over The World’ track.

You probably know a lot of their songs like ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Bad Moon Rising’, ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’ etc. They were massive in the late sixties and their songs still get played a lot on classic radio stations.

I have heard of ‘Proud Mary’ but that is a Tina Turner with Ike song.

With regards to the Creedance Clearwater song above. I was reading the meaning of this song. It seems to be an anti-war song of the time (Vietnam).
It could resonate to today’s current geopolitical climate.

Some of these Vietnam anti-war songs are so cleverly written and have great melodies. If you were just listening, it would seem just like a catchy rock)/pop/ song.

Eve of Destructive by Barry Maguire is a classic.

Give The Dickies version a listen too.
They covered a few classics.

First time I heard it was when I saw them live supporting The Jam in 1979

watching Kasbian on TSNMT,

Serge isn’t a front man for this band…

Watching Sex Pistols with Frank Carter from Isle of Wight last night.
Nope, doesn’t work without Lydon.
Pretty shit actually.

But you have a brilliant sense of humour and wit.

What is my problem now ? There are/were 164 posts ahead I was intending to read. I am now fucking that up by responding to something funny from December.

Dane,

i just listened to Eve of Destruction, both versions on my commute home. They are fantastic in their own musical styles. I got emotional listening to Barry Mcguire’s version.

The video accompanying the song is so poignant. What a senseless and savage war.

I like this song even more than ‘Fortunate Son’.

Thanks for this. :palms_up_together: :folded_hands:
