Been listening to this over weekend…whats your favourite??
It took them a few attempts to record Alice in Chains as Layne was so out of it he kept falling asleep or forgettibg the words.
I also really like this one…
I thought I had posted this on this thread already, but it may have been and probably more likely on my Brothers Watsapp chat.
I do like their sound, although I think it may be a bit limited. Iv watched videos of them live which is quite amusing, especially when they are communicating with each other. It’s like they have their own language.

Well worth a watch IMO…
Emotionally its pearl jam because at that point in time PJ was my main source of obsession.
Technically its Nirvana because it was a one take.
Tragically its AIC because of Layne.
Anyway, what i would give to have 3 bands like these doing sets like these in 2026.
Wishful thinking i guess, but hey who says we cant dream

In response to you and @Walshy07 I think the 3 MTV unplugged sessions highlight a period/movement of music which was very raw, emotional and not over commercialised.
The Grunge movement, in hindsight was built on apathy, discontent and self doubt and is probably why there was a relationship with opioids.
I think the 3 unplugged sets, are prime examples of why we love music. The power and effect it has on people for a number of reasons. I think I may have touched upon it before but with Music, the listener can interpret it and find relevance with it in a way that is solely their own. As if the lyrics were written by them and find solice in that.
Music is not visual, yet you can be visually impaired and still see.
In regards to the three, PJ set is very powerful vocally, whilst Nirvana and Alice in Chains almost come across with reservation but equally as powerful.
I am definitely biased, but for me, I hear more emotion from Kurt. In addition the set comprises of reinterpretations of other people’s songs to the point that even Bowie was quoted as saying that he was blown away by the cover of Man who sold the world.
@Delboy77 I completely agree with your wish for 3 bands doing sets like this in the present day.

This hit me hard! I didn’t make that equivalence even though I was heavily into that movement and still follow those that are around (AIC, Jerry Cantrell, STP).

Their first single , nearly fifty years ago. I remember seeing a copy of it for sale on a stall in Camden Market years ago and they were asking silly money for it even then.

I am not sure if they are already on your radar, but there is a young band from LA called ‘Untitled’.
Definitely a Grunge sound although some of their songs seemed to have a Weezer influence.
I have attached a link of them in session from Six Music. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to find the Timestamp the session starts.

Nevermind is an atrocious recording at least my copy on CD is. Really poor engineering.
