Great song. Probably the last great song they did before they started turning to shit.

It is a toss up between that and Numb as to which is the last really great song they did.

I know I probably read too much into songs - this song is allegedly about a relationship break - up. I always thought it was about a Father and Son. The ambiguity in the song is another thing I really like.

The line “You get to carry each other” not “got to carry each other” just blows me away. It is saying that we all have the grace to support each other as a privilege, not as a chore or obligation. The whole song is so powerful and yet so subtle.

Love it.

Just listened to the new ABBA album, sounds like they’ve been never away

was messing around with my home theatre and came across this “8D” audio track. it’s a good listen, reminds me of the beach music they used to play at the Coogee Palace beach bar I worked at.

The best I found was The Who, Who’s Next. Was going for a long overnight haul and just picked up a few of my younger brothers cassettes. By hazard put this on and did the whole haul with just one stop for a big nicotin and cafein top up.

Btw never been a fan of The Who but they have thier uses.

Just adjust the fad and balance.

Good call - Roger Daltry has a very under-rated voice - The Who was such an awesome band.

Quadrophenia is one of my favourite albums / films.

Jonny Greenwood’s newest soundtrack for the Lady Di biopic ‘Spencer’.
The very strong influence of 1970s Charles Mingus on this lead track.

I know this will probably be an unpopular choice to list on here - but I think when taken in context this song/album/singer has a lot of merits. Especially coupled with Todd Rundgren’s guitar work and production.

The whole album was released at the height of punk - but it could hardly be less punk - it is theatrical, overblown, and in truth, it is somewhat bizarre that it should become such a massive and prolonged hit. Especially considering the image of the performer and the writer. You can’t really say it was of its time because it really wasn’t.

There is something in it though. I had this LP in my collection alongside The Clash and The Ramones. It was and will never be a “cool” record and neither will the singer ever be hailed as one of the great performers - his face/image just does not fit. What is this album, where does it fit? I don’t think anyone can really nail that answer.

The boy can sing though.

I don’t know why anyone would listen to Meat Loaf when they could just go straight to the Boss

True

There are a lot of similarities in the themes of the songs. Bruce obviously does it way way better.

It sold millions though - was on the charts for over a decade - but given all of that, I still cant understand how it became such an iconic album.

A song I have loathed for 50 years…

Oh JHC
Why did you have to remind me of that?
Now it is in my head.
Absolute dross
