Just back from seeing The Mission at Shepherds Bush Empire.
Brilliant gig.
It worked ! Cheers all.
RIP Vangelis.
Created magic. Blade Runner music unforgettable. Epic.
Just seen the news. How sad. RIP
My man! I’m learning to play it these days, solos are a bit tough but I’m slowly getting there!
Tipton and Downing by far are my fav guitar duos in rock/metal.
I really dont want to compare the other NWOBHM bands like maiden to priest. The naming of JP as metal gods is well deserved imo.
I did do a passable maiden on guitar with my band… And that was 15 years or so back… But even then JP guitaring was immense. They really laid the benchmark and none of the following bands as per me (with dual lead guitars etc) could come close.
Fanboy wankery over.
I’m a fanboy, I don’t hide it. The age of Internet has enabled me to find bands that I would go on to love (and I find a lot of new good ones every few months) but Priest have always been in my top 5 bands.
Glenn and KK are the best guitar tandem of all time for me, though Richie has stepped in admirably, I took an immediate liking to him and it grows every day, they really got lucky with him. I’m mostly learning their early stuff these days but Glenn’s solos are unlike those of any metal player I’ve heard so far.
This seems like it has a chance. The article says that apart from the title, the songs are musically different. I disagree. The lyrics are also remarkably similar and the tune is the same ‘genre’.
Why now though? 28 years later?
I am looking for a playlist of about 1.5 hrs that i can use while i am running.
It can be metal , hard rock , progressive or whatever.
What say i create a playlist on spotify and we can build a combined playlist for those kinda songs ?
Like 5 of each guys songs at a time and then we end up with quite a good collection of songs ?
Unfortunately, I’m subscribed to Deezer instead of Spotify but I like the idea - I could just duplicate the playlist we make together, what do you say to that? I actually already have five songs in mind, they might not be your cup of tea at this point in time but I’m confident they’ll get you running through brick walls when those riffs hit you!
Looks ideal to me. Lets just list the songs here… Till a maximum of 30. Once we cross that , we’ll go to the next playlist.
And no repetition of songs.
And screw the time limit. Quite a lot of my fav songs are pretty long… Doesnt need to restricted to us alone btw. And doesnt need to be restricted to fast riffs etc etc as long as they arent those slow ballads , drone , doom types
I will go first.
Savatage - Edge of Thorns
Symphony X - Bastards of the Machine
Queensryche - Walk in the shadows
Iron Maiden - Be quick or be dead
Dio - Rainbow in the Dark
No doom?! You’ve just excluded half of my bands but I’ll try to smuggle some under stoner and sludge monikers! I hope you have no issues with bands whose vocalists don’t use clean vocals, otherwise you’ll restrict me to just a handful!
In no particular order, my first suggestions are:
Sodom - Don’t Walk Away (Tank cover)
Nevermore - Narcosynthesis
In Flames - Zombie Inc.
Slayer - Silent Scream
Crowbar - The Cemetery Angels
Just dont like bands which put me to sleep and thats what sludge doom etc and those guys do…
No disrespect to the music that those guys put out… I am okay with the death metal vocals and all…
All i can say is that this is gonna make one heckofa playlist by the time we are done… And am great with it…
Just keep the 30 songs in shuffle
And i daresay any guy who will keep these songs on playlists is gonna get a heck of an intro
